shichibukai and double dealing dogs

I posted this earlier today:

Was wondering how much Law’s decision to become a shichibukai was influenced by seeing Boa Hancock well and truly make the system work for her. Of course he would have been aware of Doflamingo and co, but he was up close and personal with her. Will post a panel later that kinda kicked this thought into being.

and decided to make a whole new meta-post cos’ of time and effort and it got away from me.

SO

Hancock sails right up beside the Polar Tang when it surfaces after having turned a bunch of marines into stone and having commandeered their warship.

Although Law is not fazed (Bepo might be another matter), the ship completely overshadows the sub, and the cannons are clearly on view. It’s a ballsy move for anyone, but one for which Hancock faces no consequences (unrevealed events after the Reverie/Levely aside), and not just because she’s beautiful.

Just to reinforce what she’s sailing, and more so, who she’s stolen it from (and from right under their noses) there’s this panel below where Ivankov first appears.

I kept the whole page just to show the sheer size of the ship, and Hancock’s words at the end about what type of vessel they’re sailing. Ivankov is 4.49 metres tall (14′8″).

And as seen in the panel below (and the one before it, not on display), it’s Hancock who gets the Polar Tang across the Calm Belt, and with a pirate ship in that case.

Like, maybe before this encounter, all that Law thought when he heard the word ‘shichibukai’ was this kind of bullshit:

Law and his crew are sitting right at the back of the Human Auctioning House, with a clear view of Doflamingo’s Jolly Rogers.

Seeing how Hancock used the role to also break the law—but in order to

I believe the Zolaw moments have come to an end for now in the manga, so I wanted to take time to discuss this Zolaw moment in Chapter 1012 (and also, give some Japanese lessons).

In the English translations of the chapter, Law said to Sanji regarding Zoro “I’ll leave him with you” / “Take him”. It kind of gave me the impression Zoro was something Law just wanted to brush off his shoulder (and onto Sanji’s, lol). It felt like a bit of a change of attitude considering how worried for Zoro Law had been the past couple of chapters. But when I read the original Japanese scans, I found that Law actually says 「そいつを頼む」 which translates more closely to ‘I’ll trust you to take care of him (for me)’. So, he is actually requesting that Sanji take care of Zoro. This would be a strange thing to say if Law were not a doctor, since it should be expected that a friend would take care of their friend without you having to ask them. But since Law is a doctor, I believe this shows that he actually feels a strong sense of responsibility for Zoro’s wellbeing since he is requesting for Zoro’s own nakama to take care of him.

And also when Sanji asks Law to explain the situation, Law’s answer is solely focused on taking care of Zoro. I’m sure that Law understood when Sanji meant, but he thought caring for Zoro was more important so he sort of ignored Sanji’s actual question. Law’s response also ends with しろ which is a command form of する (to do) so Law isn’t just giving Sanji advice but direct orders/instructions on how to take care of Zoro.

So my point is, don’t take Law leaving Zoro behind and running away as Law not caring because its very much not the case. However, because Law has a priority as one of the 3 captains to take down the Yonkou, he didn’t have the time to take care of Zoro himself (it’d also be pretty inconvenient for the plot, as much as I would like to have seen it). If Sanji hadn’t shown up, he probably would have found one of the other Strawhats to take care of him anyway. And the fact Law already knew about the state of Zoro’s body makes me think he probably did a quick check-up back on the rooftop, we just didn’t get to see it.

How did I not hear about France banning hijabs? What’s going on?

long story short, there’s legislation in the process of being passed that would

  • ban girls under 18 from wearing any form of religious head covering in public, and although it’s obviously aimed at muslim women, it would also affect other faith groups that practice similar forms of modest dress
  • ban islamic swimwear in schools and public (there is already a modest swimwear ban in place at public beaches, this just extends it)
  • ban mothers wearing hijab from entering schools or participating in school field trips or extra curriculars
  • ban the slaughter of halal poultry - the cheapest and most easily accessible form of meat protein for the muslim community
  • extend school hijab bans to universities
  • prevent muslim women from choosing healthcare providers based on gender (which many muslim women prefer to do, since many exams require removal of clothing, etc)
  • ban muslim parents from homeschooling
  • force halal markets to sell pork and alcohol or face closure
  • ban foreign flags at weddings

What can I do to help? This sounds utterly outrageous and I want to help out in any way I can even though I am just in the US.

hey guys! lots of people are asking how to help, so i’m reblogging this again with some more info and resources. please remember that, like i stated before, this is not yet law but in the process of becoming law.

more information is coming out daily, and there are a few corrections and updates to note:

  • the modest swimwear ban, though it was overturned in 2016 for public beaches, will still affect public pools and schools
  • the halal ban is not technically a “ban”, but it is still expected to severely impact the industry in a way that could produce similar effects and make halal poultry less affordable and accessible to the communities that rely on it as an affordable staple.
  • the notion to extend the hijab ban to universities is not yet in effect or being introduced, but many fear it will be the next step

How can you help?

Here are some info posts on how to help. Sources will also be linked at the bottom:

Sources and tips:

Information is constantly changing, so if any fellow Muslims out there have some additional links, updated info, or tips, please feel free to add on

And lastly, please don’t add unnecessary commentary or confrontational dialogue to this post. Reblogs encouraged!
