In 2012, my family tried to bring my cousins in Vietnam to the US for a family wedding. We found no legal pathway for them to even visit us in this country because the government is afraid they will stay illegally. We are citizens, but we are suspects in our own country.
" Hello my name is Wilfrido I am 34 years old and have been living here for 14 years. Unfortunately I had to leave my country in an uncomfortable situation because I couldn't get a visa and came here looking for new opportunities. I had two daughters who were born here and I am working hard to give my family a better life. I am not a thief and have not had any problems with the police at any moment and the reality is that I came here only to do what I had in mind which is to work hard and I am proud of what I have accomplished in this country. Even though we have not had the chance to get legal documents. We would like that in the future President Obama and Congress take some consideration of this and realize that we only come here to work and we are not terrorists nor do we come here to take the jobs of other people because there are plenty of jobs. I hope that those in charge take my message to heart and help us come through with a just, comprehensive immigration reform and to stop separating families and integrate us into the American community so we may come out to the streets and not be afraid. Every day for us is a day that we come out with fear of not knowing if we will see our family members when we come home, our wives, brothers and sisters. We are really fatigued and tired of facing this situation where these racist, unjust laws are being dealt by these agencies. We ask that you please here our plead, and consider that you too have a family and children and came to this country also as immigrants and so we are all here looking for an opportunity to build a better future for ourselves and that is the only thing we want. So it is now time for a comprehensive reform of immigration laws. Thank you."
