Warrior revamp | kTERA Developer Note

Hello, this is Warrior Revamp manager Kalvenstein.

Today I want to talk about the Warrior Revamp happening with the October 27th update. The direction of the revamp focused on the prominent issues, as well as systemic ones that needed to be modified, and because of this it delayed delivering the news to the players. (_ _)

For this Warrior Revamp we focused on making systemic and effect changes, rather than modifying the display.

This narrowed down to 3 categories: Edge System stacking on monsters Modifications on existing skill usages Role as a warrior-tank

After many nights pondering on these three problems, the revamp proceeded with the following intentions in mind.

Well then, let me explain the details of Warrior Revamp.

Direction of Warrior Revamp

1. Edge System Revamp

- The original warrior Edge System worked by stacking Edge on monsters and triggering them to give massive damage, but when there are more than 2 warriors in a party, the sharing of Edge made it impossible to commit to one’s own rotation.

Due to this implication, issues rose where warriors would refrain from having other warriors in the party.

Before solving this problem, we understood that the warrior’s Edge System is one of warrior’s biggest appealing points, and we tried to look for a way to solve the issue while maintaining warrior play style.

Therefore, Edge has been changed to stack on warrior itself, rather than the monster.

However in many-to-many PvP, Edge is stacked upon attacking other players, and because there is an issue where Scythe can be used on a class with weaker defense, we recognized the need to lower Scythe’s PvP efficiency by modifying Glyph of Carving from increase crit chance by 2 times to increase crit chance by 3 times on monsters.

The change will guarantee a certain crit chance when using Scythe from the front as a warrior tank in PvE, and therefore we’re expecting this to have a big influence on warrior tank performance.

2. Skill efficiency revamp (Smoke Aggressor, Traverse Cut, Deadly Gamble, etc)

- Smoke Aggressor

  • While this skill was intended so that when warriors tank, they can pass the aggro to its shadow and dps, recent boss monsters have large AoE damage patterns, and/or summoning the shadow took too long to be efficient. With this in mind, using Smoke Aggressor will now immediately summon a shadow, and we are planning to add an effect where the shadow will instead take 50% (20% for PvP) of the damage warriors take for limited time.

- Traverse Cut

  • While the endurance debuff is definitely a benefit of having a warrior in a party, most of the users themselves were not satisfied with the skill. To solve this we removed the endurance debuff entirely, and in order to maintain its efficiency we changed the effect to a self buff, stacking 0.9% (max 11.7%) attack speed per hit, maintaining the usage of the skill while increasing player satisfaction.

- Deadly Gamble

  • The existing Deadly Gamble is already an excellent skill, but in order to maximize its usage, we added an extra skill effect. Deadly Gamble has been changed to increase damage of Rain of Blows and Blade Draw by 10%, increase Edge stack by 2 times, and increase radius and damage of Scythe by 10%.

- Miscellaneous

  • In order to match the attack stat as a DPS and defense stat as a tank relative to the newly added classes, we broadly adjusted the PvE damage of most used skills in a warrior’s rotation, and made a bold decision to remove unused skills.
  • Charging Slash – increase PvE damage by 20%
  • Rising Fury – Increase damage by 20%, adjusted HP determined damage correction
  • Combative Strike – increase PvE damage by 20%
  • Traverse Cut – increase PvE damage by 10%
  • Torrent of Blows - increase PvE damage by 300%
  • Rain of Blows – increase damage by 6%, reduced cooldown
  • Scythe - increase PvE damage by 10%
  • Assault Stance – added increase damage to monsters by 10%
  • Poison Blade – changed default Edge stack to 2, removed Noctenium effect
  • Mangle – removed

3. Tank revamp

- The biggest issue with warrior tanks was having lower DPS than other tanks, and by matching DPS to brawlers and adjusting skill usage as noted above we hope to change the perception of warrior tanks and see more in the future.

Therefore in order to match DPS we are planning to add a new passive skill. Also, by increasing Torrent of Blows damage and adding a frontal defense effect, the changes will help maintain aggro with ease.

- New skill: Standoff

  • Increase crit power by 1.18 from the front

- Torrent of Blows

  • Increase damage and add a frontal defense effect

Final words…

Along with the Warrior Revamp, there will be an event with various rewards for playing a warrior in dungeons dungeons so please stay tuned for that, and I hope to see you all soon for a class balance patch for revamp-excluded classes in November.

Any additional issues that may arise will be adjusted as necessary.

Thank you.
