If you can’t join a gym or buy dumbbells and you want to become a Buff Butch, doing bodyweight exercises is probably your best bet. You can do these without any equipment, and they can still be tough. Make sure to look up adjustments online if something’s tough. A lot of these can also be added to if you do have weights (dumbbells or just heavy stuff you own) to hold onto while you do them!

For anyone who’s trying to get buff this year!

It’s been one year since I broke my ankle, so it’s probably time for another update.

My limp is gone but my ankle is still weak and stiff at times. Part of that is probably because I’m lazy. Also sometimes I’ll bump it the wrong way and that hurts, kind of like hitting your funny bone, if your bone was a metal rod in your leg.

But I’m starting to work on it more seriously, as I’m going on a trip to Japan this spring and there will be lots of walking. I need to up my stamina, and I’ve been wanting to get back in shape for a long time.

SO, I may be making more use of this blog again. Wish me luck :)

So idk if you thought about it, but for the last year and some change, I've been doing ddp yoga, and I think I've got some decent results(probably would be much better if I followed the diet more consistently throughout the process) but yeah what are your thoughts on yoga? Do you do prefer weight lifting or resistance training

Yoga works for some people, so if it works for you, that’s great! I do think meditation is great for mental health, I really like having time to just clear my mind and try to push all the anxiety and stress away for just like ten minutes. Makes the rest of the day dealing with that a little easier.

I personally like weight lifting because it’s easier to measure results. Also I like being able to flex :p

Thank you so much for this blog! Just have two quick questions: 1) do you know any exercise that makes you grow taller? I do yoga but it's not helping much T.T 2) how do I get rid of hip and inner thigh fat???? All the thigh exercises I know are for quads and hamstrings. Thanks again and best of luck to your ankle! :)

Sorry for the delayed answer, but I know nothing of use. I don’t think there are any exercises to make people grow taller. And I don’t think there’s any proven exercises to target areas like that but I honestly don’t know. Google? Good luck!

Broken ankle update~

It’s been a while, but I had my final follow-up on my ankle today. Doctor said it’s looking good and I shouldn’t have to go back again, unless something goes wrong as it continues to heal. It’s been about 6.5 months since I broke it.

I’m still missing about 10% range of motion in my ankle, which I may never get back due to scar tissue. It will continue to swell and be sore for another six months. Apparently it generally takes a full year to get back to mostly normal.

The scar is still pretty prominent - it looks like a little shark took a bite out of my ankle on one side, and then a long knife cut on the other. I still have a slight limp, but it’s not so bad if I’m only doing short distances. Going down stairs is still a bit tricky, I just have to be careful to support my weight with the railing.

If I’m still feeling pain in December, the doctor said to check back in and they may need to take the plate out, but that would be another big surgery and he doubted I’d want to do that again (though the recovery wouldn’t be as long as the first one).

More rambling behind the cut:

Four month update

Not much has changed since the last update. I can walk without a limp for very short distances if I concentrate and go slow, but then it usually ends up hurting later.

It aches when it rains, and I’m suddenly very aware of all the foreign hardware in my leg.

My back doesn’t hurt so much, now that even when I do limp, it’s not as bad. Plus my muscles have probably gotten stronger.

Haven’t needed pain meds for a while now.

Gained back basically all the weight I lost.

Stairs are still the devil.

A weird part of me wants to start jogging when I’m back to normal, even though I’ve always hated it, just to take advantage of being able to run again.

So I finally made my post-op appointment today and the doctor says everything looks good. It’s normal to still be swollen and limpy and achey, so that’s fun. I have one more follow-up in three months, and he said that I should be mostly back to normal by then, so it might be my last appointment. It’s scheduled for the 5th of July, so I’m encouraged to know I should be walking normally by SDCC lol.

Can’t sleep because I have things to do so instead of actually doing them I’ll give you a bit of an update.

My ankle/lower leg still aches all of the time and it sucks. It looks like I might be in for some chronic pain and boooo. I still have painkillers but they make me sleepy and I only like to take them at night. I can walk a pretty good distance now, but I pay for it afterwards. Going down stairs/slopes is still really difficult. Still limpy. Still a bit swollen. Don’t ever break your ankle, kids, it feels like it will never be back to what it was.

I got really busy with various things and haven’t scheduled my follow-up appt yet so no update there. I need to do that this week oops.

Syndesmotic Screw Removal

So here’s what happened. Last Friday I went in for my 3 month follow-up of my broken ankle, and the screw going through my tibia and fibula hadn’t broken on its own, so the doctor wanted to remove it in a surgery called a syndesmotic screw removal. The next opening was the following Monday so bam, I was scheduled.

I hope your surgery goes well!! I've had experience with screws/plates too so I hope it goes well, and please take care of yourself!

Thank you! I’m mostly annoyed that I can’t take any pain killer for my headache today, and also worried about missing more work. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Since they're going to be cutting into me again tomorrow, I figured I should post a before picture of my scars. You can also see how my left foot is still a bit swollen even though it's been almost three months since I broke my ankle. They'll be cutting along that big long one to remove one of the screws. Wish me luck.

Ok I need to start prepping for surgery by cleaning all the things and making sure I have easy food bc i remember what anesthesia did to me and it was not pleasant. plus who knows how long I’ll be off my feet for again.
