Lmao, the use of blinding light in those s6 D/E scenes makes me laaaaugh. Like talk about missing the mark. Though being unable to fully/properly see them kiss in the 6x12 scene is a blessing in disguise.

Well that’s the thing, the light is supposed to be like AND IT’S EPIC AND BEAUTIFUL THAT IT’S LIKE THEY MANIFEST LIGHT

but it looks like a cheat. It’s the camera and the editing doing the work to make the kiss look epic, the kiss itself was probably garbage.

So do you think Stefan forced Damon into becoming a vampire? In one post you said he did but another he didn’t?

I’m either side of it, when people say that he didn’t, I’m like well, I mean, he guides Damon to the girl’s neck but Damon doesn’t really need much convincing to bite her, if we saw him move his head back but Stefan force it down then that would be more definitive. When people say he did I’m like sure, he did guide his head so I understand that reasoning. I don’t really have strong feelings about whether or not he did it. What I do have strong feelings about is the accusation that Stefan’s to blame for Damon being Damon because he’s not. Even if he did force him to turn, Stefan isn’t responsible for Damon being a homicidal, predatory abuser, that was a choice Damon made and Damon already showed signs of being careless with other people’s lives before turning i.e. helping Katherine kill those people and then kissing her with their blood on her lips. Another thing I have strong feelings about is context. If you fall on the side of Stefan doing it, it makes sense from his perspective. Damon didn’t say he didn’t want to become a vampire because he’s fundamentally against it, what he said was that there was no world without Katherine, he was effectively choosing to commit suicide over a girl so I can see why Stefan would be like, yeah, I can’t let that happen...

I saw a DE fan responding to Stefan saying “Elena and me we were soulmates too” by saying that they weren’t because they had to 7-8 month relationship in high school and that Elena called Stefan an epic love, but never a soulmate.

And I know that DErs think that everything has to be said explicitly because their ship has no nuance or layers or substance or depth, they just have unearned, overblown, basic dialogue, but you don’t have to say things explicitly in order for the feeling to be present.

Elena has called Stefan her soulmate in different ways

What do you think of the fact that Stelena broke up 4 times in 7 months?

Stelena During Breakup #1

Stelena During Breakup #2 (which happens because Damon killed Mason, goaded Katherine about it and Katherine compelled Jenna to stab herself in the stomach)

Stelena During Break Up # 3 (which happens because Damon got himself bit and Stefan had to sell his soul to Klaus)

Stefan and Elena never broke up because they stopped loving each other or because their relationship wasn’t working out or because they were incompatible or because they were toxic, it was literally because of external circumstances trying to push them apart but them coming back together and conquering them, that is what angst is. And even when they do break up it’s because a supernatural bond has to force them apart since JP couldn’t think of any other way that Elena would ever leave Stefan, she implements a sire bond to make Elena act out of character and even then, even during Breakup # 4:

“Wait For The Morning”: Rooftop scene.

First of all, what I actually really enjoyed about the rooftop scene in 4x01 is how it paralleled the hilltop scene in 2x20 because in 2x20, the sun is setting, which is metaphorical for how the sun is setting on Elena’s old life

while in 4x01, the sun is rising, which is metaphorical for the dawn of a new day in Elena’s life

and Stefan is there both times.

While one was more about mourning and despair

the other was about hope and possibility

And that’s basically what the lyrics of the song get at

I mean, I think it’s a bit self-explanatory, the whole concept of the song is about changing/not changing for someone and lying/keeping secrets

So I think it really depends on if you want to look at it negatively or not — the fact that it’s supposed to signal that Elena is keeping a secret (not being able to feed on animal blood) and that things change, people grow apart or you can look at the scene

that things change, people lie, but it doesn’t matter because they love each other and will not change the other for themselves, that they’re going to be alright.

“Skin”: Confrontation Scene

I actually really love this song but anyway, what I find interesting about these lyrics is that on the surface it could be from Elena’s PoV:

Considering that the whole theme was supposed to be safety vs. danger with Stefan/SE and Damon/DE or home vs. adventure etc. etc. but considering the scene, considering that it’s about Stefan pulling away and Stefan breaking ties, I think it’s from Stefan’s PoV

because Elena is kind of reaching out in this scene and I mean that in the sense that she sees him breaking away and she can’t handle it, she has to confront him about Rebekah

she has to try to connect with him or try to appeal to him

and he’s not having it, he’s essentially — in this scene — telling her to let him go by telling her he let her go

and I think that speaks to the lyrics.

Stefan followed Elena to the graveyard, went to her house to give back her journal, enrolled into her school all so he could insert himself into her life. He came back to town to start a life with her he said, so he was already planning to be her boyfriend before they even met.

1. Damon followed Elena to the cemetery, not Stefan

2. Did Stefan make Elena forget her journal? No, I don’t think so.

3. Yes, he enrolled in her school because he wanted to get to know her, he tells her as much in 1x11, “I couldn’t leave without knowing you”, but

which is why he doesn’t push it when she breaks up with him

when she says part of her wishes that she could forget, he says: “If that’s what you want” and even when she says this

he just looks at her

he doesn’t try to convince her, he doesn’t tell her how he feels, he just let’s her feel what she’s feeling and think what she’s thinking.

People seem to forget that Elena was pretty assertive in that relationship.

after Elena showed up at his house first

and when she says she’s not going to the party, he just tells her to have a good night and when she does show up

he doesn’t approach her, he doesn’t approach her even after Lexi spoke to her, he doesn’t crowd her or pressure her, she comes to him when she’s ready

and that’s because she told him very clearly, she needed space at the beginning of the episode and he listened to her

Even before that, in 1x02, Elena walks away from Stefan at the comet and he doesn’t go after her, he doesn’t pursue her

but she shows up at his house

even before that, he keeps his distance

so yeah, Stefan came back to town because he wanted to build a life with her but that was his dream, his desire, there was never a guarantee that she would fall for him and want it too, all he did was meet her, and he couldn’t have calculated that this would be her reaction to him simply bumping into her

That connection isn’t planned. Neither is this

It’s the hope but he didn’t do anything to make this happen just because he wanted it to happen. And when he does meet her and brings back her journal, he didn’t anticipate her inviting him to the Grill, he literally just brought back her forgotten property and at the Grill, Caroline invites him to the party and when he inquires about whether or not Elena is going, Bonnie speaks for her and she’s pleased

Everything that happened after their bumping into the hallway, was organic. Elena had all of her agency in this relationship, so, you tried.

To be completely honest with you I don’t really have many thoughts on season 8 no-humanity Stefan because he was basically just kill, kill, destroy, destroy, and I didn’t really get much nuance from him but what I do find interesting is that this Julie BTS interview of 8x11:

Because this is the first time we as an audience have seen no-humanity Stefan without Elena.

There is no one to step into the darkness with him, there is no one who is ride or die for him, there is no one who he depends on for emotional and spiritual strength:

and I also found no-humanity Stefan’s preoccupation with Elena interesting because he was so hell-bent on destroying anything that reminded him of her or reminded Damon of her because that would only serve to remind Stefan:

when the day he gave himself over to Cade, this was re-established:

and even without humanity Stefan essentially admits to Sybil that he has never stopped loving Elena:

and then says things to Damon that he clearly kept to himself all this time:

and then he breaks the necklace. After that, he decides he’s going to kill Elena to free Damon of him. Really? He won’t chain Damon up or just go to a different continent, it all goes back to Elena? His preoccupation with her is like when Angelus was preoccupied with Buffy because Angelus would lash out at the things/people that made him the most human.

Mickey halted in place. He sighed, the tension releasing from his body. Turning back to face him, Mickey cocked a questioning brow, waiting in a heavy silence. Ian’s emerald eyes burned into him. 

 “We can’t keep doing this,” Ian said, trying in vain to keep his voice steady. “We keep pushing each other away and then we’re miserable without each other.”

Mickey’s expression smoothed over, his face falling slack with the sudden implication. A thick lump formed in his throat and his chest felt tight. He wondered if this was it again. If Ian was ready to end things. 

“You think I want it to be like this?” He cried. He caught himself as his voice broke. Taking a second to reel himself back in, he tried again. “I care about you, Ian.” 

His eyes stuck to the floor between them. He missed the way that Ian’s lip twitched upwards, the way his expression twisted into a picture of happiness. 

“I know. I care about you too,” Ian answered. 

Mickey dared to raise his eyes from their spot on the ground. Ian gazed back at him, his smile calm and eyes steady. When he spoke, Mickey’s eyes were glued to his lips, his ears focused on every word. 

“I’m done pushing you away. I want to be with you. It’s only ever gonna’ be you, Mick.” 

Mickey stared back at him. His face betrayed his intention to hide his stunned expression. His mouth inched open, his eyes searching Ian’s. Ian caved, breaking through the barrier of space between them and striding forward. Mickey reacted before he could think about it, their hands finding comfort on each other. They dragged themselves impossibly closer, their lips fused together in a powerful embrace. 

When they pulled back, their foreheads pressed together, their breath mingling. Ian chuckled, his laughter undeniably infectious as Mickey’s lips burst into a toothy grin. In his relief, he almost forgot Ian’s promise. As he latched onto the thought, he mumbled out his own promise.
