The Patreon Mafia/Cowbuild Gate/Tracking/Doxxing Summary and Links

We're seeing a lot of people confused or just catching up about the situation so here are some helpful links:

The rundown is some big creators like Cowbuild, Bergdorf, Hermajesty Builds, and Anto, Bursa and more had a list of their's leaked where they were looking at and exchanging private information of suspected leakers. In violation of Patreon TOS, EU law & UK Law privacy laws.

Anto has since apologized and confirmed the existence of this list and that some members of this group were tracking their cc. His apology has been deleted.

The methods used to track is the warehouse tab in sims file share, baking user info into blender files and by monitoring download links. This is why so many permanent paywallers make their patrons beg for links, so they can track each piece of cc.

Last week we also released a post that documented more information that Cowbuild has been committing Copyright Infringement and Intellectual property theft, this has been confirmed by one furniture brand. Thats all for now.

Why is the Sims community boycotting Curseforge?

I've seen a lot of posts going around calling on Simmers to stop using Curseforge, a modding platform that enables creators to monetize their downloads, with plenty of outrage directed toward modders and CC-makers who are still on the platform. But I've also seen a lot of people who are confused about why there are calls for a boycott.

Curseforge is owned by Overwolf, a company that is donating money to the IDF in support of its ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.

In late October/early November, Overwolf posted a graphic on their social media asking followers to "defend our defenders" by contributing financially to a fundraising drive for the IDF. They were met with backlash and quickly took the graphic down, replacing it with one that used language about raising money for "those affected by the violence in Gaza" (my phrasing may be inexact) but the money is still going to the IDF and not to any agency actually supporting civilians or doing humanitarian work.

You can see the original graphic on this change.org petition, which provides some additional context.

If you are using Curseforge in any way -- by hosting your content there or downloading from it -- you are giving money to a company that is raising funds for an ongoing military campaign against a civilian population.

This is why people are calling for a boycott. If you are a modder or CC maker for the Sims, you should remove all of your content from the website and redirect people to other DL sources. If you are a consumer of mods and CC, you should stop clicking curseforge links and send (polite!) messages to modders and CC makers to urge them to pull their content from the site.

So Curseforge/Overwatch put out a statement about this, addressed specifically to simmers.

Even if we decide to take them 100% at face value (which I don't think we should) and accept their claim that none of their corprate revenue goes to "defend our defenders," (their original claim) and only to help "terror-affected families" with housing...is any of this funding going to support the hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians? I'd say people living in refugee camps because their homes were bombed to matchsticks because some of their neighbors were maybe allegedly supposedly aligned in some vague with Hamas are pretty "terror-affected." Are they eligible to receive any of this aid, or just Israelis?

There's no word on the website, but considering that the other major donor listed on equal footing with Overwolf is the Israeli Leadership Forum, which states on its English-language "About Us" page that it is a platform for those who consider "the advancement of Israeli society....as their mission," it seems fair to say that this group and donation drive have broadly settler-colonialist aims.

So. My original post was not 100% accurate in all the details, I'm willing to own that. Mea culpa, I'm a random guy on the internet who tried to make a post to summarize a lot of discussion that had been happening in a lot of different places, and I didn't do any investigative journalism to verify those claims (see above: random guy n the internet).

I still think that boycotting Overwolf and their products is a good, simple step to oppose Zionism. Using Curseforge (and other Overwolf products) still fuels the bottom line of a Zionism organization which aligns itself with other Zionism organizations. Vote with your feet and don't use these products.

If they're releasing corporate statements to try to dispel concerns over a consumer boycott, it means it's working.

p.s. Do not harass people. I think my original post was pretty clear in terms of calls to action, but I'll say it explicitly: sending hateful messages, spamming people's inboxes, etc. is not an effective tactic here. Polite communication to register your objections, followed by withdrawing your financial support is a much better strategy for effecting change.

this is not really an ask to do a callout but more as something i’ve noticed. since when it’s acceptable for cc creators to block content behind a paywall for a whole month? and sometimes it’s even more than that. i’ve seen the own sims 4 community say it should be max like 2 weeks and yes i know people gotta pay their bills, but some of this is riduculous. some examples of this are obscurus and northen siberia sims.

Yes we've seen this for a long time now. And many people have decided now that 3 weeks is now the accepted time frame for early access. Which is still pretty long in our opinion.

People in this community, including myself, have done just that according to what we have available: your actions. If you've changed your mind and there's anything else you'd like to show the community, anything you'd feel you need to get off your chest, that's up to you. I can't help you with that or point you in the direction of repairing your reputation here. Unfortunately there are no magic words you can say to do that. I do think it would be beneficial to unhide your earnings on patreon to be more transparent about how much you're making there. It would at least make you seem more genuine, which is a quality you seem to lack in the eyes of the public at the moment. But otherwise, you'll just have to navigate this all on your own.

At this point, I'm going to defer to some of the people I saw commenting on or reblogging your post as I wasn't directly involved in that conversation. Perhaps one of them will have something they'd like you to speak publicly and openly about, so I'd like to give them the chance to ask you whatever they'd like. But if not, I'd suggest you stop reaching out to people to educate you and start putting in the effort yourself.

back in 2020 when I was tryna collab with this bitch and she had me do all the meshes and all she wanted to do was lackluster textures. Kept asking me to redo them over and over again like im her damn slave and when I had any ideas they were never considered. The fact that to this day my hard work wasn’t released and I stayed quiet about it is wild then she proceeds to talk shit about me on twitter like??

As you can see this bitch was manipulative as fuck and when I let her know not to talk to @santosfashionsims and add her to our collab because both of us were uncomfortable this is what she does:

9 months after I already finished the collection I asked her to release once again and she said this (mind you I joined the military on January of 2021 when I actually finished the collection on august 2020)

I kept trying to contact her after but she barely even responds so I had go mention her on my stories to get a reply and after a while I realized she's a scam. So I had to unfollow her.

Never got a response from her ever again and she unsent that message lol

A while after the whole doxxing scandal happened and I of course decided to contribute and post on my stories so people are aware. What happens? She sends her little minions who wont sucking on her loose pussy to come and "explain" her part of the story and I politely asked them to have her contact me about it since I have no business with them. They just cuss me out then attack me like the cult that they are.

  • Forgot to mention this part but right after working with her I was completely drained from creating for a few months and I was completely done with the community most of last year. I was barely active on there so then this year comes and my friends cheered me up and actually made me feel like coming back. So as a little come back I decided go do this model casting just for fun and I see these following tweets:

Really gross that she’s pressuring creators into collabing and not respecting boundaries when they say no. Then ghosting ppl when it comes time to release the collab, but are we surprised at this point?

Also confused because she says she creates original creations but here we have in dms that she admits she can’t mesh AT ALL. Hopefully the original creators are ok with her paywalling their creations and are receiving compensation even though she’s taking sole credit on her solo releases.

Let’s leave art plagiarism behind in 2022.

the paré/bergdorf collab is one of the most disgusting displays of greed in the sims 4 community and a sign of the second life-fication of the sims 4. paré, for context, is a SL creator and bergdorf simply converts the already existing content for a cut of the check. I get SL content costs money and they're cool with that over there but we should not normalize it over here. not only do they expect people to pay $5 for only ONE MONTH OF CONTENT, but you would have to pay $25 to have access to everything and $10 to only get 3 months' worth. It's ludicrous. I wouldn't even spend $25 on a tshirt. At the very least people who actually play the game should be making this much cash off the community if at all.

That whole crew has been trying to bring that mentality over TS4 for awhile now. The thing is historically The Sims has never been like this although it’s slowly started to morph into that over the years. Some communities will tolerate it, others won’t. Bethesda’s is openly hostile to pay per mod for example. SL exclusively operates that way. BIt’s about not trying to force your expectations on the norms of a community. The sims tried to have a middle ground. We were wrong to accept a lot of the patreon nonsense (timelines getting stretched out, tiers with little to no benefit that were overly expensive, retroactively locking content, PAYWALLS) as long as we did.
