PMD Obsessed

@ifbench / ifbench.tumblr.com

Hi there! Author of PMD: Eternal Shadows, and 21 years old. This used to just be my blog I use for following and liking, though I'm starting to use it for PMD stuff now. My main sideblogs are @ask-team-searchlights, @wingsofachampion, @gildedgaggle, @ask-world-savers-council, @ask-professor-cedar-pmd, @humanandpokemonworlds, and @achampionswings. I love PMD so much. If anyone's checking out this blog right now after I followed them: Hi! I run a few Pokemon askblogs at @ask-team-searchlights and @wingsofachampion, and I also do a bit of RP on them. I've also made two blogs specifically for RP, my muses, though, to seperate it from the askblog stuff and hopefully make it more accessible. You can find them at @mysterydungecn and @achampionswings!

I'm also starting to post rambles about various things on this blog itself, primarily about PMD and my PMD fics. I love PMD so much.

(I hope I'm doing this right, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.)

Gates, Super, and Adventure Squad Event Interest Check!

So! In the nearly four years I've been in the PMD fandom, I've noticed that the vast majority of the PMD fandom doesn't care about any of the games after Explorers. Gates consistently gets hated on, Super is often treated the same as Gates, and nobody ever talks about Adventure Squad.

So, I'm gonna try to change that, with an event that's all about these three underappreciated games.

The rules are simple:

  • No Explorers-centric content. It can be referenced, but it cannot be the focal point of any of your submissions. Same goes for Rescue Team.
  • Please include "tw post apocalypse" on any submissions you make that are of a post-apocalyptic nature. Post-apocalypse makes me extremely uncomfortable, especially in regards to PMD, so I'd rather not see anything like that.
  • No NSFW content, if that's ok.
  • No bashing any of the PMD games, please.

If you're interested in this, please reblog this post!

Some common phrases from my fics' and blogs' PMD world, along with meanings and use case examples:

Defy the legends: To defy fate and take charge of your destiny. Ex: "I defied the legends when I escaped that collapsing mystery dungeon."

Sea of time: The final part of a journey. Ex: "We're almost home. Just the sea of time left."

This cookie is for you: A parting gift. Doesn't have to be a cookie. Ex: "You're leaving? …well, this cookie is for you."

Icy sanctum: A sanctuary that will only make things worse for you. Ex: "Don't go to the gambler's corner. It's an icy sanctum."

Within the sadness: The lowest point in a hero's journey, when all seems lost. Ex: "The hero and their companions were within the sadness when the villain attacked their hometown."

And yes, each of them are from a song title from one of the 5 PMD games.

i am SICK and TIRED of people saying chikorita is a bad starter. just because the johto region starts off with a flying and bug gym does NOT mean you cant decently and cleverly use a chikorita. chikorita was the first pokemon i ever chose way back when i was 8 playing hgss for the first time. i was 8 and already knew how to play with chikorita better than all of you chikorita haters. u get a mareep for faulkner and a pidgey for bugsy and by that point u have plenty of pokemon to play the rest of the game nicely and use chikorita when it's smart to do so?? grass pokemon have a lot of weaknesses but if you used ur brain for more than .09 seconds it's super easy to know when they're good to use in battle?

i trained a BEAST of a meganium at 8 yrs old when i barely understood how to play the game like. if you actually tried then you'd appreciate the PERFECT BEING chikorita as much as i do.

also chikorita is ADORABLE. it's a leaf pear that turns into a fucking FLOWER SAUROPOD DINOSAUR. WHO WOULDNT LOVE THAT?!?

PEOPLE WITHOUT TASTE clearly

anyways fellow chikorita lovers mwah ily

chikorita haters dni😤😤😤🙅🙅

Pokemon X Retrospective, from the perspective of someone playing it 10 years late.

To preface this, I didn't start X immediately after Emerald. I actually started Sun next, and switched between that, Shield, and Firered for a while.

Then I got to the broken golf clubs house, decided that that was enough Sun for now, and started X.

If you want more context, you can read my Emerald retrospective here.

Pokemon Emerald Retrospective, from the perspective of a first-time mainline Pokemon player

To preface this, before playing Emerald, I had very, very scarcely played mainline Pokemon. I played about 40 minutes of Soulsilver back in 2013, and played Legends Arceus and Violet to the credits in 2022, but not much else.

And no, I don't plan on doing the Battle Frontier, or at least not getting all the Symbols. Base Emerald was already challenging enough for me.

I did have fun exploring the Battle Frontier, though, and the music is fantastic!

It was fun to see the locations in the Emerald arc of Pokemon Adventures in-game, and that's enough for me.

Next up is my thoughts on Pokemon X!

Been trying to play through (almost) every mainline (and a few others) Pokemon game recently, to learn more about mainline Pokemon, and as part of a project.

So far, I've completed:

  • Emerald
  • X
  • Legends Arceus (but it was in 2022 and I want to replay)
  • Violet (but it was in 2022 and I'm replayimg and want to try the DLC)

So far, I'm playing:

  • Firered
  • Sun
  • Shield + DLC
  • Violet (replay) + DLC

So far, I've yet to play:

  • Soulsilver
  • Platinum
  • Black
  • Black 2
  • Alpha Sapphire
  • Ultra Moon
  • Legends Arceus (replay)

These aren't quite mainline, but I also want to play these:

  • Colosseum
  • XD
  • New Snap

As for Yellow, Crystal, Let's Go, Brilliant Diamond, and the other versions of all of these, I don't plan on playing them.

Anyways! I'm liveblogging these games in-character over at my Pokemon IRL blog @zoruascanbetrainerstoo.

And since I've made retrospectives on all the PMD games, I'm wondering something.

Did you know that one of the most obscure PMD items is a simple banana?

In the original Rescue Team games, there's a banana item that, when eaten, acts identically to a regular apple, restoring 50 hunger.

It is only found in four dungeons in the entire game: Mount Blaze Peak, Frosty Grotto, Mount Freeze Peak, and Magma Cavern Pit.

What's more, this item can only be found inside walls. You can't find them with regular dungeon navigation, you have to go into the walls to find them.

They are absent from Rescue Team DX, likely because they serve very, very little purpose.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh anyone have random fun facts with their respective interests???

No pressure to say anything my stomach is just all twisty and it's bugging me.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Adventure Squad was the only PMD game to feature recruitable shiny Pokemon until Rescue Team DX.

It also has a number of other oddities, such as grass not being a starter option, instead being replaced by electric.
