Words to use instead of ‘said’

**Using the word ‘said’ is absolutely not a bad choice, and in fact, you will want to use it for at least 40% of all your dialogue tags. Using other words can be great, especially for description and showing emotion, but used in excess can take away or distract from the story.

A/N: This is longer than anything I’ve ever written and oh my gosh I actually really like it? I recommend listening to Hug Me sung by V and Jhope. It really got me in the mood to write this. Please excuse any mistakes and enjoy (:

Six boys walked into the practice laughing and joking around, as was usual for the members of BTS. When they saw Hoseok sitting in the middle of the room, head in his hands and shoulders slumped, looking defeated and tense they became quiet. Everyone looked at each other trying to figure out who would ask him what was wrong. It was no secret that when Hoseok was angry he needed to be left alone, but they had an important concert tomorrow and they needed to practice. 

Namjoon turned out to be the bravest among them all, “Hobi Hyung? Are you okay?”  He tentatively walked up to him and crouched in front of him.

“We had an argument,” Hoseok’s voice was tense and held some anger. Yoongi, being the one Hoseok usually went to during these situations, walked over and sat down next to him. The rest of the boys followed suit and sat around him, but still giving him the space if he needed it.

Hoseok looked up and stared past Namjoon, staring at himself through the mirror, “She came in here to see me and to talk about how I never help around the apartment. I guess I said something wrong because next thing I knew we were yelling at each other,” he looked at Yoongi with tired eyes and continued, “I was already mad and I took it out on her.”

Yoongi sighed, “Do you know where she is? You should apologize to her.” He really didn’t know how to help his friend, but he knew they needed to know where you were before coming up with an elaborate plan.

“I dunno she stormed off in anger and she’s not answering my calls or messages.” Hoseok looked at his phone in his hands with an uneasy expression on his face. He looked around at everyone surrounding him, “But I have a bad feeling, like something’s gonna happen.” Taehyung opened his mouth, as if he was going to speak, but Hoseok’s ringing phone cut him off.

They all looked at it to see your contact and picture pop up. Hoseok was quick to answer, putting it on speaker, and started talking, “Y/n baby! I’m so sorry please come back so I can apologize to you in person. I promi-” he was cut off by someone clearing their throat on the other end.

“Is this Jung Hoseok?” a man’s voice could be heard and it confused Hoseok as well as making the bad feeling come back stronger.

He looked at the guys before he remembered he didn’t answer, “Uh yes, who is this? Where’s Y/n?”

“This is Doctor Lee at Severance Hospital. Y/n has been in a car accident and you were listed as her emergency contact,” the words from the man made Hoseok freeze. It seemed as though the words went right through him.

My brain has parked itself firmly on the edge of sicfic bily land and the idea of the m/c being sniffly with the flu and feeling terrible but not telling the pack about it 🥺 maybe she even uses blockers to hide her scent from them because they're all so busy and it's probably just a 24 hour thing right?

Only it's not, she keeps getting worse and worse and after a few days she spends it mostly in bed and maybe yoongi, namjoon and jin are away for a few days on a little private honeymoon trip so 🥺 the pack really needs her so she hides it, and yoongi, namjoon, and jin of course would realize in a second that she wasn't feeling her best if they were there but the others are always a little less attentive and she's the pack omega right now right? she's the one who should be looking after them! Not the other way around so she can get through this until the others get back.

Only then- one night right before they get back maybe she's doing the dishes with hobi after dinner, and he's trying to get her to sit down because he can tell she's tired and she slips and falls and he catches her- and she just sort of - whimpers and leans into his hands, so tired of keeping up appearances that she's okay. he slowly guides her to the floor all like "pup!?"

and she can't do much more but whimper and try not to let the nausea in her tummy overcome her because vomiting on one of her alphas is decidedly /not/ attractive and pack omega like. of course the others come rushing at hobi's call- and she tries to push their hands away unsuccessfully. too weak to fend them off.

he realizes how hot her skin is, how flushed her face is and how clammy she feels too- and realizes something's not right. his anxiety climbing as he realizes he can't smell her. "i'm calling jin-" "no don't-" it takes one dark look in her direction before she's conceding.

they descend back on the house in a heartbeat, leaving only one night early and getting back close to 4am. maybe the m/c had started sleeping in her own nest again because she was worried about getting them sick but now- the pack find her cuddled between jungkook and tae in the nest. And she whines the second that they move even an inch from her because the first time in days she's warm.

The fever is tearing through her 🥺 and she whines and pushes up into namjoon's palm when he touches her forehead, hobi's already got his medical bag right next to him. letting out soft little, "i'm here baby, i heard you gave hobi quite the scare huh? i've got you now"

They'd be so careful with her and so forceful with her babying after she'd denied that she needed their help for so long. i just picture her trying to stand up and jungkook pulling her back into the nest, tae tugging her back into a cuddle and reminding her that good babypup's do what their alpha's tell them no if ands or butts 😤 and she's so apologetic about it and worried about getting them sick but they're not hearing it.

Jin would cup her mouth when namjoon gave her medicine, yoongi holding her hand because fussy pups in omega space don't want to swallow yucky stuff ever but she'd be rewarded with a soft scruff, kisses to her flushed cheeks, and warm cuddles after her packmates capable hands rubbing at her sore muscles, making soft grumbly growly noises to help lul her to sleep.

only to be woken up a few hours later with more medicine and soup prepared by jin's hands, she gets kisses for each and every sip she takes until the warmth in her tummy and yoongis hand stroking over the sweaty nape of her neck lul her back to sleep.

maybe she gets a little sniffly and teary eyed, it's only because she feels so rough, and the pack are taking such good care of her. i bet they transport her to the couch on day 2 because as much as she wants to sleep, she also wants to heart them too and see them cuz she just misses her pack so much <3

i think jimin would get so frantic with his scenting, sure that he could make her smell healthy again with just a good scent mark, and he'd gaurd the edge of her bed, call the others whenever she started coughing in her sleep- his instincts possessing him because sick packmates are ones that need extra protections and he can't just /leave/.

the punishment for hiding that she's sick can wait for later- for now, the pack would just be preoccupied with making sure she gets better as quick as possible <3

Prologue | Chapter 1

(Cw: slight yandere behavior, dominance) i want to talk about all alpha bangtan today- like of course, they wheren’t all presented as alphas when they decided to form a group,

but one by one, they all present as alphas, not a single beta or omega to help them settle and mellow out into some sort of hierarchy. although as their rut schedule mellows out- they don’t fight as much anymore.

(maybe namjoon was an early alpha to contend with yoongi’s heavy fist and even heavier scent- peaches as pink and as sweet as his knees and elbows, but only a fool would mistake him for something soft.)

People wonder why they work, and wonder more how they can be seucessful with so many people constantly vying for control, but the truth is that They all have their ways of quiet dominance, and that’s what keeps them from stepping on each others toes and challenging each other in more than subtle ways.

Each of them think of themselves as the pack alpha, although they’ve never felt the need to state it officially.  They’re just them, just a group of alphas that for all intents and purposes should have never fallen into a group much less fallen in love.

in jin’s opinion, a pack alpha is someone who always knows where his pack is at all times. he wrangles everyone during their schedule, makes sure they’re /always/ home on time for dinner (yes, even namjoon- whose prone to long hours in the studio or meandering bike rides, Jin might have to put a tracker in his phone for that one). it’s a little overbearing to have a curfew- but jin needs to know when everyone will be home. sometimes can’t sleep when the rappers are at the studio waits at the door until they show up, chagrined and ready to take whatever scolding jin gives them with boyish grins, nips go scent glands that turn into relived nuzzles. Wordless growls of “glad you’re safe, glad you’re here- glad you’re /mine/“

In Yoongi’s opinion, a pack alpha is someone who makes sure their pack is always well fed. he runs meal times- he makes sure his pack is eating the finest meats and foods every night once their careers really start to take off. maybe he even keeps a calorie log of everyone, to make sure they’re all eating enough.  its his hand that circles the back of his packmates necks, massaging their scent glands and at times their stomachs. With his big alpha hands made for loving. He keeps the less spicy kimchi in the fridge for Tae and the Gummies that Seokjin likes. Knows everyone’s favorites and keeps them there.

in jimin’s opinion, a pack alpha is someone who protects his pack. So he double and tripple checks the doors at night. and he makes sure he knows the exits at venues and escape plans so that crowds never have a chance to surprise them. he’s also the one who notices things, notices which producers hover a little too close to namjoon and Yoongi, ego in their eyes. he notices which omega’s in the managment take a little too much pride in jk’s new muscles, he’s a social little thing <3 jimin see’s it all and protects the pack from anyone with bad intentions. The others nip at jimin but he bites back, tae is the only one allowed to mark jimin with bites.

hobi is the caretaker of his packmates bodies, helps each of them stretch out their muscles after every single performance, showers with each of them and holds them up in the shower when they’re truly just- worn. he looks after their skin care routines and always personally detangles their hair after every shower 🥰 keeps their skin care stuff arranged by cubby and keeps a special box of refills just to make sure no one every runs out. Schedules doctors appointments and spa dates 🥰

jk is in charge of the packs’ clothes 🥰 partially because his nose is the most sensitive in the whole pack. he always wants to make sure their house is just so- just perfect with everything right where they need it, they used to think jk was going to be an omega, but no- its a domiance thing- because they should smell like him 😠 so that no one tries to take them!!! 

tae keeps everyone sated physically, as the cuddliest pup in the whole bunch he’s the first one to wrap himself around a unsettled packmate, the first one to offer easy affection and companionship. it’s a dominance thing- because tae is the only one who joonie lets curl around him the only one who can tempt smiles from yoongi on the hardest of days, who can make hobi laugh when the choreo just won’t go. their kisses belong to him, their affection bleongs to him. It’s /his/ and no one else’s.

and namjoon? to namjoon an alpha is someone who always makes sure their pack has everything they could ever want. So he works himself to the bone to make sure everyone in the music industry takes them seriously, stays late nights for years to make sure the others can hold their heads high. But once they achieve all their goals it becomes softer- he’s the one who brings back coats at wintertime, who gets hobi an extra pair of dancing shoes and gloves for jiminies little chubby hands.

They’re all different alphas- but they learn to bend rather than break, to let things go and claim territory in their love lives and in their nests, each one of them certain that one day they’ll wake up and be named pack alpha 🥺
