You better start getting comfortable with the idea of an extremely broad anti-fascist coalition that includes tons of people who you strongly disagree with, because buddy, you're in one

@elodieunderglass what a delightful butterfly chair!
Butterfly chair with HUMAN FEET! Thank you!
One of the many perils of engaging with Internet Discourse is that sometimes you realize after the fact that the person you were responding to is a literal child who has mistaken their first big feeling about a wildly complex adult topic for an informed opinion, at which point you have to just stare wearily into the middle distance like: ah, yes, this is my cosmic punishment for having once also been fourteen and convinced I knew everything.
Like. I'm not saying teens shouldn't have access to these conversations or that they should be forced to identify themselves by age, because the negatives in both instances profoundly outweigh the positives. But I do think that, regardless of age, we should collectively start reintroducing a cultural respect for the idea that some people know more than you; that having feelings about something is not the same as understanding it; and that, while engaging in debate can be a good way to improve your grasp of a topic, this doesn't apply if your starting position is a baseline level of hostility towards anything that doesn't line up with the little you already think you know. There's no shame in being less knowledgeable about something than others - by definition, everyone starts out with Baby's First Opinion! - but you do need to understand that it is Baby's First Opinion. You have to want to learn, and you simply can't do that if you've mistaken knowing that a given issue exists for properly comprehending it.
This is apparently a hotter take than I thought but: hating on lawyers as a profession, calling them inherently dishonest etc. is politically reactionary. It discourages defendants from seeking legal counsel, puts forth the idea that it’s inherently suspicious to insist on seeing a lawyer before you answer police questioning (your constitutional right!) etc. which ultimately just benefits the state in making it easier for them to convict you. This is one of those things that “progressives” who were raised conservative often don’t realize is one of the parts of their parents’ worldview they should question more, but they should. Not only are lawyers not The Problem with “our system,” but having someone who is educated in the law whose job is to represent your interests in court — getting one regardless of your ability to pay, even! — is in fact one of the best parts of it.
I hate how all the crime shows do this as well. "Urgh, lawyers are the worst", "I hate lawyers", "People are dying and our witness is wasting time with a lawyer." It's copaganda! Fuck that. You have a right to a lawyer for a reason, use your rights!
You know who helped me when my landlord was doing some super illegal shit regarding the fair housing act? A lawyer.
You know who helped my brother when his boss stole his wages and made him work outside of the legally acceptable hours for a minor? A lawyer.
Hubby was a lawyer for years and would joke that he told people he sold meth to school children so they'd like him better.
Most of what he did was family law and criminal defense. He was good at it, but what made him special as an attorney was how much he cared, though it was not incentivized by the system to do so.
He retired early because the stress was damaging him a lot.
He fought for fairness and he fought for people who had never had anyone fight for them before. He worked to get people into rehab and saved more than one marriage, but he also defended women from men who would have run roughshod over them in a divorce and hapless people from being convicted of things they didn't do because the district attorney wanted a win at any cost.
There are awful, asshole lawyers out there. But also some of the best people I have ever known are lawyers.
My mother spent a few years as a practicing attorney. Her favorite thing to do was estate planning because it gave her a chance to help people take care of and protect their loved ones in a system which does not always do that well by default. She also enjoyed doing small business work. She also had to stop for her health.
There's a reason people think of lawyers as terrible and that is because caring deeply is not easy when you are in a profession where people only come to you when they are having terrifying and traumatic problems.
One under-appreciated breed of fic writer are the ones who hyperfocus on logistics to the exclusion of all canon shortcuts, and thus usually strike upon an awesome way to flesh out the worldbuilding or characters.
Like, I’m not necessarily talking realism here since often it’s still pretty far from realistic, but more like, “someone has to be running spies in this fantasy kingdom, and we’ve seen the whole royal court, so which background character is it? How does that change these three major interactions?” Or “real life historical nobility did in fact have some things to do that were like jobs, how does this human disaster cope with running an estate?” Or “there’s no reason for a sci-fi robot detective to know how to whitewater kayak, where’d she learn?” Or “if this guy is serving the emperor directly he has to be way high up in the space empire servant hierarchy, why is he doing this menial task for someone else? What’s his motive? Does he perhaps have the secret space telepathy?”
Anyway I’m always DELIGHTED to find a fic or writer who asks these questions because the fics themselves are universally bangers.
person who knows how logistical things works has picked up the cannon, hefted it thoughtfully, and put a single chalk mark precisely on the problem.
if lots of men want vaginas and breasts, then why is it ok for a man to say “I want a vagina and breasts and that’s why I identify as a woman”? by your own logic, shouldn’t pretty much all dysphoric trans women actually identify as dysphoric cis men? it’s just not making any sense and I wonder if you’ve put even the slightest bit of thought into this
I've actually put a lot of thought into this, far more than you've put into attempting to even understand what any of my posts say.
Physical sex trait dysphoria is not synonymous with social gender dysphoria, for one, and you can have one without the other.
And you don't need either to be trans, trans people just often do have one or both.
Physical sex traits have a social gender association under pericisnormativity, and plenty of trans people strive for that gendered look to ease their social dysphoria via passing better. Some are uncomfortable with their traits regardless of the gender association they hold, and have a raw disconnect from their body. And many trans and nonbinary people aren't trying to 'pass' as anything, they are just living the way that is most comfortable to them.
Whats the difference between a GNC cis man getting estrogen and a trans woman getting estrogen then? Easy. One is a woman and the other is a man. Because that's the gender they identify as. This isn't hard.
Gender identity is not prescriptive or indicative of a type of person, it is a form of self-expression. You, or I, or anyone else, does not get to decide what someone "should actually identify as" based on a set of characteristics.
biggest reason i make so many flop posts on here is because everything i do reeks of the desperation to make a popular tumblr post. this is deliberate, because it is what protects me from ACTUALLY making a popular tumblr post. so long as i crave it, tumblr fame will never find me. it is only when i turn away, and accept my fate of obscurity, that people will lay their eyes upon me. and it WILL be because i tripped and fell on my stupid face while i was turning
time for people to do the funniest thing ever
Do not.
I get so pissed whenever a terf accuses me of "escaping" womanhood, because I *love* womanhood, I just don't love it for *me*
If I had such an antagonistic relationship with femininity, I would not be as happy as I am today.
If I fucking hated womanhood so much, I wouldn't find women among those who inspire me, much less among my circle of friends.
If I hated womanhood so much to "escape" it, I'd seek to punish it, yet transgender self-determination and bodily autonomy lift all boats to resist this patriarchal hellhole we currently find ourselves in.
word. I still sing in an explicitly feminist treble chorus (which I sang in before transition) even though I am a literal baritone, and a great deal of that is *because* I love women and womanhood and femininity and I want to uplift women's (literal) voices. i may be a trans man singing with a bunch of (mostly) cis (mostly) women, but where we will always overlap is bodily autonomy and the need for self-determination and we will always support each other in that
One of the things I used to do when I lived on the East Coast and went to this one small convention was run Gender Experimentation & Affirmation Hour. All the femmes and former femmes would turn up with makeup and nail polish and all kinds of stuff and we'd sit there for about 3 hours, helping out anybody who wanted our help, and sometimes just leaving someone alone so they could pick up six bottles of nail polish and look at them for a while before setting them down and walking out, because today isn't the right day for them to do that. We had cis guys trying on makeup as well as trans women getting advice or putting on their first full beat.
And that little silly thing that I did for three hours once or twice a year brought me so much joy. It felt so good to use these skills that I picked up while I was cosplaying as a woman to make someone else feel good.
And no, makeup isn't gender, but it can be a fun way to affirm gender. I love seeing people loving being a woman. I didn't, but I'm glad they do.
Or to put it more concisely: I grew up eating pork. I am now Jewish. I no longer eat pork as a result. Does this mean I hate people who eat pork or hating that i once ate pork? No! It just means I don't eat it anymore because I no longer want to for reasons which are my own.
I devoted all my productive adult years to what I thought of at the time as womanhood, and left gender behind because it no longer was a concept I wanted any part of for myself for my own reasons but I have identified as a feminist since I learned the word and that has not changed whatsoever because the things my mother taught me about her feminism made sense and still do. That it is for everyone because the opposite damages everyone, no matter what gender they are.
Scrolled past this agakn and just can't get over how much I love it. We need to make things beautiful again and this is such a wonderful example. The beadwork on the wires of a utitarian object, contrasted with the grey concrete.
I've seen this photo and similar ones online for years, and with pretty much every nation where rug weaving is still practiced claiming it was an example of their handiwork, so I did a bit of sleuthing and it turns out the photo is from Thailand!
Quoting from the "Share knowledge of electrical systems - control cabinets - MDB cabinets - PLC control systems" Facebook page (Google translated, sorry):
"In daily life, for the picture of wires in the house that must be wired to various points and use wire clips to lock the wires in place, which does not require many steps. It is probably an image that we are used to seeing. But for the electrician's work as shown in the picture, it is a unique and intricate wire installation. This is... the science and art of wiring inside the building that creates intricate and beautiful patterns. I didn't think that wire clipping could play with patterns like this. It is another story that creates surprise for those who see it. When the electrician with great skills wires using wire ties to various devices by securing the wires to the walls or ceilings of the building with wire ties at every distance, it is like a former artist. Some people make woven patterns, OTOP mat weaving patterns, yantra patterns, Phra Thep Phanom patterns, various lotus patterns, etc. It depends on your imagination. It is considered a creative idea. It also creates good value for the work. Therefore, I would like to commend the technician's effort and patience. Then you can see the work as seen in the picture.
The science and art of wiring of the previous generation of technicians is wiring with VAF type wires that require the method of nailing wires to attach to the wall, cement or wood to make it look beautiful.
Which is different from the new generation of wiring that often uses the method of wiring in pipes embedded in the wall, in pipes on the exposed wall or wiring in various types of electrical wire storage trays using THW type wires and wires for various types of pipes, NYY wires, VCT wires, etc., which also gives another type of beauty that is very popular today. The wiring of the pipes must take into account the neatness and beauty, but must not neglect the details, specifications of the correct pipe and wire sizes at all times.
As for the old wiring method "clipping" which is still popular with technicians and some electricity users
The method of wiring by using clips to attach to the wall has various methods of wiring, emphasizing simple wiring, wiring that emphasizes neat wiring, making it beautiful, and there is also wiring that emphasizes wiring in a beautiful pattern using wire clips to tie it beautifully in the desired pattern. It is considered a wiring that truly relies on science and art. This type of work is often the work of A technician with long experience Because they have to plan the wire pattern, place the clips, and run the wires to get the beautiful pattern as desired. Otherwise, the work will not come out beautifully. For the patterns that are often used to assemble on the electrical wires
They are usually auspicious words, surnames, symbols, various Thai patterns. When the wire clips are placed in the right place, the pattern that appears will be beautiful, showing status, showing the relationship, such as the pattern written as a surname.
These works are works that show the art and experience of the technician as well. To make beautiful wire clips on the electrical wires, the technician must first lay out the outline to make that pattern, then gradually tie the wires one by one until it is complete as desired."
And I also found the OG pics!
Humans are capable of creating the most beautiful things from the most utilitarian means, and the fact that everyday art this isn't common practice everywhere makes me want to invent a time machine just so I could go back and kill the first person who came up with minimalism.
Bro, don't just mention a source and drop those image while CONTINUING to not provide links. 😭
Anyway, here's some links that are as close to original sources as I can readily find:

Many thanks for finding the source on this, as you can see I grabbed it from a Facebook post where it had no attribution of any kind (OP didn't know either)

hey pal it’s april. you got a time machine?
ive recently been able to get over my sensory issues regarding moisturizer by literally just saying "im going snail mode"
This reminds me of a conversation I had with my friends while camping in my early teens... We were at the Oregon Coast walking through the rainforest and I looked at a skunk cabbage, which is an odiferous member of the lily family, and said, "you know, I think if you called a rose a skunk cabbage it wouldn't smell as sweet" and one of my friends said, "by that logic if you called a banana slug a lily snake it would be less gross."
We have called banana slugs lily snakes ever since. But it doesn't make accidentally stepping on one with bare feet in the dark any less unpleasant for anyone involved.
