Alright, so I'm supposed to share a song I have stuck in my head and then tag other people to do the same?

Two lovers have reincarnated throughout history, destined to find each other and fall in love all over again. There’s also this third guy that reincarnates alongside them… we don’t really know what he does.

“This is the end, May.” Charles held up a hand gently to her face, a warm smile lighting up his features despite his pallor and obvious pain.

The young beautiful woman kneeling by the injured man sobbed, her long blond hair hanging in front of her eyes, her hands clutching her lover tightly. “Don’t go! Not again!”

“It’s not goodbye.” He wiped away her tears with his thumb. “Not forever. I’ll meet you in our next lifetime, and we’ll fall in love all over again.”

“But we only remember when we become adults! We waste so much time!” May leaned over, hugging him tightly, ignoring the blood that stained her clothing as she did so. “Why did you have to die so young this time?! I wanted to grow old with you!”

“You will.” Charles hugged her back weakly, his arms barely able to lift enough to go around her. “I will always find you. I will always love you!”

“I love you too!”

CRUNCH.

The out of place sound in the midst of the touching romantic scene caused the two to turn and stare at the source of it. Kate waved at the two of them from her lawn chair across the street, continuing to eat the sunflower seeds she had brought with her. “Don’t mind me! You can continue!”

CRUNCH.

“What are you doing here?!” May snapped, her annoyance clearly displayed. “Did you have something to do with Charles’ injury?”

Kate glanced down at the bleeding man on the ground. His dark eyes met her own, then stared at the ground. His face turned even more pale, although it was unclear if it was from anger, guilt or ongoing blood loss.

Or perhaps all three.  

“As awesome as I am, I don’t have the ability to arrange a storm.” She gestured at the now clearing skies, the wet streets and the broken branch that was still poking through the remains of Charles’ car, the shattered glass from the windshield sparkling in the sunlight as the cloud opened up. “In fact, he’s suffered penetrating trauma to the abdomen… you could probably have saved him if you called an ambulance rather than having this touching, drawn out goodbye scene.”

“How would you know?!” May clutched Charles closer, ignoring his groan of pain. “You don’t know anything!”

“I mean I was a doctor a few lifetimes ago, but sure… tell me that you know best because your hearts and souls are intertwined or some other bull crap.” Kate laughed, enjoying the rage on May’s face. After lifetimes of being jerked around to follow these two idiotic lovebirds, it was nice to get a small amount of payback every once and a while, no matter how petty.

“So can you save him?” May finally asked after a long hesitation.

“No. That ship sailed about 20 minutes ago.”

“Then why ARE you here?!”

Kate held up an object. It was a beautiful flower, similar to a rose, but the petals had a dark, almost black hue.  It was wilting, the last petal barely hanging on, about to fall any moment. She carefully tucked it into her shirt pocket. “Once I realized our time in this lifetime was up, I decided to come watch the show.” She shook the bag of sunflower seeds. “Want some?”

“HOW CAN YOU BE SO HEARTLESS?! He’s dying!” May stared desperately down at Charles who was near unconscious, the desperation in her voice almost enough to make Kate feel guilty.

Almost.

Kate frowned down at the couple. “Technically we’re all dying, since once he goes we all will. Not much use crying over spilt milk. Or lost lives in this case. We’ll just wake up in the next one anyways.”

May started sobbing again. “I hate this!”

“I don’t think you are supposed to enjoy being cursed.”

“That witch! Why would she do this to us?!”

“If YOU’RE mad, how do you think I feel?” Kate grinned bitterly. “You two are the destined lovers she’s trying to split up. I’m just the innocent bystander.”

May glared at her. “I wish you would just die.”

CRUNCH.

On the ground, Charles let out a long breath as he died.

Kate smiled again. “Wish granted. See you in the next life.” As she spoke, the last petal fell from the rose in her pocket, falling gently to the ground. As it did, Kate and May closed their eyes, and their souls left their bodies, leaving only corpses behind.

They’re gonna be a heck of a time explaining how a healthy young woman died while holding a crash victim, and another sitting on a folding chair with seeds… Kate thought to herself as the world shifted around her. Oh well.

Everything faded into darkness.

That “he talks??” bit gets me

Yeah, kids talk. If your kid doesn’t talk to you, it’s because of one of two reasons:

Kids are not stupid, not at any age level. They pick up on shit and they remember and then when they grow to be teenagers, they know who they can talk to about stuff and who they can’t.

My 13 year old nephew is not particularly affectionate with his mother and he rarely talks to her about anything important, but there are times I can’t get that kid to stop hanging off me and he has those serious conversations with me, like when we discussed his friends coming out to him as bisexual.

It’s not even that hard to make a kid feel loved and welcome. I don’t even know what my nephew is talking about half the time with his games, but they’re important to him, so I let him talk and I make appropriate noises of shock and sympathy when they are needed.

He watches a lot of YT channels, so we’ve discussed the importance of regulating your media, because I don’t want motherfuckers like PewDiePie shaping his world view.

He reads anything from Stephen King to manga and he does that because I’ve been reading him books since he was a baby. I do it with all of my nieces and nephews; when they get school-aged and old enough to read on their own, our “us” time is going to the bookstore and letting them pick out a drink and a book.

Because reading is important to me and I want it to be important to them, too. Now, it’s not something I suggest, it’s something that my nephew asks for.

“I finished my book, Aunt [Dessie], when can we go to the bookstore again?”

And when I tell him a date, I make sure to keep it.

Saying, “You can talk to me about anything” and “you can rely on me” is all well and good, but words are just words. You have to mean it and you have to show them that you mean it.

Otherwise, when it gets to those important moments in their life, they’re gonna shut you out rather than let you in.

Seriously though, you guys. Like.

Here is a secret:

Children and adolescents are actually fucking desperate for adult attention and approval. They really are. Even the ones that have in fact kinda got fucked up so far and have learned that The Only Kind Of Attention They’ll Get Is Bad and so act like shitheads, or the ones that have learned to be inhibited (and it might not even be you who inhibited them, it mighta been their peers or some teacher somewhere, which sucks!) and learned that by showing need they’ll just end up humiliated, or whatever?

Yeah them too.

Kids want to make you happy.

They’re often TERRIBLE AT IT. They’re kids. Their brains don’t work right, their bodies are weird, they have terrible impulse control, horrible deferred satisfaction, they’re shitty at projecting future consequences, and especially if they HAVEN’T been taught they’re probably bad at showing you positive emotions!

They’re BAD AT IT. And they often don’t want anyone to know it. And they’re embarrassed about it.

But they desperately want to. So much.

So one of the most crucial things is:

a) make sure they know how to make you happy. Don’t assume they can figure it out! They probably can’t!

b) make sure that’s something that is literally possible for them to do.

c) make sure, when they do it, that you SHOW THEM YOU’RE HAPPY WITH IT.

It is absolutely ASTONISHING HOW FAST this can create a self-sustaining cycle with the SMALLEST of starts.

What my students tell me they want most from the adults in their lives? RESPECT.

Don’t treat them like they’re beneath you, or that they owe you something just because you’re older. Yeah, lay down some reasonable expectations when necessary, but they know when they are being condescended and talked down to. Just treat them like human beings. I promise it’s not that hard.

People talk about how “overpowered” and freaky some of the physical feats in PJO and HOO are but I think people forget that all demigods inherently have enhanced, speed, agility, and strength. So at lot of these physical feats actually make a lot of sense in their “power scaling.”

And I know a lot of people like talk about the Lois Arc jump because that is insane but there are a lot of other feats that show off the enhanced attributes some of the other demigods have.

Like, Hazel ran after a Arion, the fastest horse alive for a WHOLE day. Hours upon hours on end. And even if Arion WASN’T the fastest horse he’s still. A horse. That Hazel was able to keep up with. And then run all the way home.

Reyna EASILY knocks away giant werewolves with a knife and used her javelin like a pole vault. Annabeth managed to fight Kronos, a whole ass Titan, to a standstill. And she’s been shown to perform moves only professional acrobatic and gymnast can do. Piper threw a fifty pound shield at Medea and was described to move fast as a viper.

Jason had dodged arrows that have appeared out of no where, no warning, and Percy has side stepped bullets. BULLETS.

Not to mention that with the Lycaon and werewolves they were all out running and keeping up with WOLVES.

So, yeah, demigods have freaky physical feats.
