Justice League identity reveal where they don’t know who Batman is and one day a bunch of them walk in on him just casually eating yogurt in the cafeteria with his cowl off. A bunch of them recognize him, a couple don’t, and they’re all shocked.

Turns out Batman didn’t realize none of them knew who he was, since it had taken him all of ten minutes and three google searches to put everyone’s secret identities together and he just assumed they had all figured it out by this point. Or maybe he had meant to tell them and then just forgotten. Either way, he regularly interacts with half of them outside of hero stuff and hasn’t bothered with the whole separate persona thing with them in years. Shouldn’t they really have figured this out by now? So what if he forgot? This is clearly on them.

i keep forgetting that Super Skeptic Jon isn’t just a meme and every time i relisten to tma i have to take a moment to process the fact that he literally read out a statement about a guy being terrorised by a ghost spider, said very sarcastically that professional help was certainly in order, then proceeded to casually mention that the guys dead body was found encased in web without any tone change at all like go off king process nothing

stating to think there’s an inverse correlation between how good media is and how easily fandomizable it is 😁

good media should make you stare at wall for 2 hours instead of immediately starting shippings wars and coffeeshop au and slowburn fics

no no you’re not wrong but also

there’s a reason for this.

My personal theory is that if Media is REALLY good, there isn't really... space, if you will for fans to add or change perspectives on it. Too dense, too complete. Like how coral won't grow on plastic because it's too smooth

Whereas some half-baked hot garbage has got ALL KINDS of plot holes, incomplete characterization, warped timelines, missing worldbuilding and other Spaces for fans to colonize, like coral growing on a sunken battleship.

And then if a series just sucks too much, it's not fun to interact with at all, and people won't fandomize it because it's toxic. Like how coral won't grow on sunken piles of burnt-out tires.

I call this the Fandom Barrier-Reef Theory.

I feel this is missing a third axis that tells you how long any given media has been active, so how many seasons or how long the show has been running for or how long the franchise has been around.

A 6-episode season of some new show might be objectively good and fun to watch but if all episodes are dropped at the same time and there's never a second season, there's basically no time for anything to come of it.

Fandom needs to simmer a long time before anything evolves. It's like a stew that needs three days to develop its full potential, not a sandwich that you slap together in five minutes.

Unless something drastically changes in the entertainment industry and we go back to 20-episode seasons that air over the course of half a year, we will never get back to the fandoms that shows like Supernatural have developed. There's simply not enough time for a fandom to build up with how shows are released these days.

Now, I’m not saying romantic relationships are inferior, or that they’re useless, or that you being in one or that you shipping some characters romantically is Bad or something off the walls like that. What I’m saying is that two people (or characters, since we’re talking shipping here) can be just as devoted to each other, love each other just as deeply, mean just as much to each other while being in a platonic relationship. The end point of caring about someone doesn’t have to be romance.

Friendship isn’t a stepping stone between strangers and romantic partners, it’s a different path. And you can follow that path as deep into the wood as a romantic one if you want, and neither is inferior to the other, they just have different views.

Write fanfiction guiltlessly. Do it not only because it’s good practice, not only because you don’t feel like putting your energy into original stuff, but because you do feel like putting your energy into fandom. Write fanfics of epic proportions or tiny one-shots; write fluff or angst or cliches or tropes; publish the roughest version or keep the twelfth draft for only yourself. Do it without feeling bad. You owe no one anything; the act of creation is a gift in and of itself, and it doesn’t matter if you’re creating fanfic or original stories or whatever else you want. All that matters is you enjoy it, because why else would you do it at the end of the day?

Write fanfiction guiltlessly.

“publish the roughest version or keep the twelfth draft for only yourself” hit so hard b/c a lot of the time i have two or three versions of a fic at least and the ones you don’t see and the ones you don’t see are the ones that were weird in ways too personal to share. i truly do exactly this.
