I’m sorry but I will never get the logic behind saying that Season 2 Alicent finding freedom away from the narrative is good writing? Because if that was always the case what was the reasoning behind Season 1 Alicent informing her children that their existence was a threat? What was the reason behind focusing on Rhaenyra’s bastard children? If Alicents greatest desire was always Rhaenyra & freedom from royalty - why crown Aegon? Why not advise her children to always have loyalty to their sister and Jace while cleaving herself onto Rhaenyra as Otto suggested? And if the response is oh well she’s romantically in love with Rhaenyra. Then that’s valid but it appears the love is one sided, toxic, and vile. On par with the disturbing *love* Daemon & Criston had and have towards Rhaenyra and it’s honestly really tragic for Rhaenyra because it ends with her dead and if Alicent’s motivation wasn’t her skewed moralistic code and the desire to save her children than what was the motivation? Desire to see Rhaenyra fail? Petty jealously? If this is the dynamic the writers are pushing for I can’t see how it doesn’t diminish Alicent’s character.

Also I’m sorry but I never bought the narrative that adult Alicent or even younger Alicent were *poor ignorant little babies*. Alicent knew what she was doing when she wore green to Rhaenyra’s wedding, Alicent knew what she was doing when she saved Criston Cole and she knew what she was doing when she used her power as Queen to request to see Rhaenyra’s newborn baby. It was all clear political machinations meant to diminish Rhaenyra and bolster Aegon’s claim…. But now I’m supposed to believe she never wanted any of it and her motivation was love for Rhaenyra? Love isn’t petty humilations and jealousy and if this what the writers want then once again they’ve failed Alicents character.

in lieu of the direction hotd seems to be taking with rhaenicent, here are shows with interesting and complex women rivalry \ relationship :

Image

("i know who you are, i can see you, you're swearing now that someday you'll destroy me. remember - far better women then you (talking about servilia) have sworn to do the same..." my literal roman empire. atia was such a fun character)

I MEAN. I don't necessarily agree with all of these (how the fuck is literally anything in The White Princess considered well-written, I know rhaenicent is heavily flawed, but come the fuck on), but also. I see an opportunity. And I seize it.

Look, rhaenicent is fine. However, it doesn't have anything even approaching "But I never had a sister."

i liked the white princess. 0 historical accuracy of course but jodie comer is always a delight to watch. meg and lizzie's relationship reminded me of rhaenicent in the sense of 2 childhood friends forced apart by political circumstances. lizzie ultimately choosing to kill eddie, knowing that it will basically mean meggie will hate her forever.

it was far farrr from perfect, but yeah i liked it. (the patronizing was unnecessary )

watch what makes you happy <3

I'm the only one who is mad about the fact that Rhaenyra will fight? And that Baela will fight too? Like the only gight she had in the book was in Dragonstone, since she didn’t leave there.

And wtf is that dragon behind Rhaenyra in the end????? Is Balerion? Because if it is and someone, anyone dare to say that HBO isn't TB I'm going havoc.

Love Aegon moment: F dignity, I want revenge.

Again: WHERE IS DAERON!!!!! They put Baela fighting before and Rhaenyra doing something, but they don't show my baby? They are putting more blacks fighting, but taking out a green fighter? And I'm pretty sure that they won't put Helaena's fighting or anything, they'll just show her sad.

This is killing me.

tbh after seeing this :

i don't care lol i was afraid they'll ruin aegon & make him a coward but in the trailer he looked feral & ready for battle. targtowers bros are going to be so chaotic this season !!!!!!

i'm not mad about having baela and rhaenyra fighting & giving them more active role in the war. that's fine. (baela being in the battle of rr is actually very interesting) BUT why is helaena not getting the same treatment ? looks like they're going to downplay helaena's importance. that sucks. she's literally the queen and rider of dreamfyre.

and daeron's confirmed. (even in s1 daemon says that the greens have 4 dragons) but looks like him and nettles are not going to appear this season. :\\\\

Have you seen the latest HBO trailer, Aemond the sons she’s MOST CLOSE TO says “Alicent holds love for our enemy. That makes her a fool”

I don’t know what was worst:

  • Aemond backbiting about her
  • Criston, her white knight, looking down on her
  • Aemond referring to her as Alicent instead of mother
  • Insinuating Alicent isn’t trustworthy
  • Aemond calling her a fool

My heart absolutely breaks for Alicent, she deserves so much better 💔

i mean, aemond was clearly upset with alicent and was venting to criston (his dad!) about it. him calling her by her name & being upset with her def does not mean that he doesn't love or respect her.

my guess? she got very upset with him for killing luke (that's literally book canon) and he was extremely hurt and upset that she didn't support him. regardless if my theory is correct or not - aemond being mad at his mom does not mean that he doesn't love her!

we never saw criston's reaction, but fabian literally said that criston's mean motive in this season is his loyalty to alicent. aemond's prob complaining to him because criston is basically his dad.

while i love alicent and support her, her children have the right to be upset with her.

(but yeah anon, i'm confused with the direction the show is taking wrt to rhaenicent. very weird. after luke's death and b&c??? hell no)

Aemond’s 100% right, and I will stand by Team Green calling out Alicent’s holier than thou bullshit every minute of my waking life 👍🏽

The problem isn’t that he’s right, the problem is wtf have they done to my Hightower Queen???

The writers are clearly pushing for Rhaenicent but solely at Alicent’s expense! Rhaenyra’s allowed to mourn her sons but Alicent’s supposed to put her bestie from 20+ years ago above her grandson.

Rhaenyra can fight for her throne and be justified in her actions, Alicent must regret every single one of her actions that opposes the Black Queen.

Rhaenyra can have the perfect son who respects his mother and fights for her. Alicent’s son refers to her by name and thinks she’s a fool because only Rhaenyra’s allowed to be a good mother. Alicent has to be a terrible mother who is willing to sacrifice her family for Team Black.

Rhaenicent was a mistake that’s destroying one of the most complex characters in the Dance, reducing her to a pathetic fool who is respected by no one, not even her own family.

Yup, I’m afraid that after what I’ve seen I’m on the verge of becoming a rhaenicent hater, which says alot because I really did like the ship and didn’t necessarily hate all of the season 1 changes…However after the atrocities that was Storms End & B&C, it’s actually fucking ridiculous to have Rhaenyra & Alicent placing their childhood friendship over their families which is the thing that literally pushed them to war?

It’s delusional, I’m not opposed to them still having the angst with the once friendship they shared but Storms End & B&C is supposed to fully cement the two on their sides. That’s the tragedy.

I generally agree because as I mentioned the ship isn’t the problem it’s the fact that many characters are losing out on interesting dynamics and plot lines because the show runners just can’t seem to balance their new creation with the canon we do have.

I also really resent Sara Hess’s attempt at trying to state GRRM was just a misogynist who disregarded the relationship between Alicent & Rhaenyra … when the relationship they created wasn’t real? The dynamic between Alicent & Rhaenyra was step mother and child and they disregarded it for the sake of aging up Rhaenyra. They just seem entirely focused on the wrong things but mind you this was the same writer who said Rhaenyra being fat was the narrative being misogynistic 🙃.

i chose to believe that this scene is before b&c, and aemond is trying to justify his actions to his mom. (the only opinion that makes sense)

at the end of the day, rejection from your parent sucks. it hurts. especially for someone like aemond, who was rejected by his dad. he's a very "it's us against them" type of person.

but yeah 100% agree with OP.

when he says “would you not have us prevail” it’s like he’s also saying “why are you not on our, my side”

of course aemond has always seen it as us against them and seeing his mother more than reluctant to take his side and instead being neutral/wanting to make peace with his half sister, who once called for him to be “questioned sharply”, has to hurt.

People calling alicent's children hightower instead of targaryen lights up my mood like nothing else because it's so true, they were more hightower than targaryen. A disgrace to the targaryen dynasty, they caused more damage to the legacy of targaryens and especially their dragons than any others

that's funny considering the storming of the dragonpit (arguably the worst thing that ever happened to the targs) happened during rhaenyra's half year reign.

but honestly? with the way viserys and rhaenyra treated them, you're right, they are more hightowers then targs.

[ and i can think of a few targs that caused more damage to the dynasty then the targtowers ]

do you think rhaenyra loved helaena in the books? I just started f&b, but I saw tb stans saying she loved her and didn't consider helaena only half-sister.

Personally, I don't think Rhaenyra had any particularly warm feelings for Helaena. The rhetoric of TB is based on the fact that Rhaenyra called her "my sweet sister," but here a smart person @gwenllian-in-the-abbey explained why it doesn't really mean anything. So no, I don't think Rhaenyra loved her.

she put a price on 2yo maelor's head. rhaenyra never gave a single fuck about helaena.
