ppl asking if calling something a manga instead of a manhua or an anime instead of a donghua "really matters" are so disingenuous bc like would y'all not be irked if large groups of ppl kept implying all western media was, for example, french? if ppl refused to acknowledge them as what they truly were bc they idolized the french to a dehumanizing degree and it simply didn't matter to them to learn about the existence of any other culture? if all their consumption of western media was about feeding that weird obsession to the point they would look at the mona lisa or the scream and go, "wow, i love french art" - or worse, they would watch a heart-wrenching movie about the great famine or the holodomor and think it was about the french?
