Meowdy ! I'm Rain (or Ashe), but you can call me Spell, and welcome to my personal little corner where I mainly post hair recolours. I'm forever in SimPE, Photoshop, and Linux hell.

Requests for recolouring hair in Afterglow, Poppet, and Pooklet/Io are OPEN

Links

TOU

Open* TOU, but I do not consent to anything I made, CC files or preview pictures to be used in CC folders (hazardous practice) and hateful/derogatory content. Reuploads for archival purposes are allowed and encouraged. Reuploads for non-English websites and regions where tumblr is banned is allowed.

ETC

  • I do not guarantee that any of my CC works on Legacy Collection
  • I often forget to respond to DMs and asks a lot, and sometimes Tumblr just refuses to notify me of any response 🤷
  • Please don't send links in my asks. Tumblr will probably delete it, so just say "Can you do X hair by this creator?"
  • I do not convert hair anymore, I simply do not have the time nor energy to do so
  • If you have an issue with me or my behaviour, I'd actually love a DM or ask about it. It's the combined autistic urge to know why, and I also want to be a better person
  • I'm from the South, but I type words ending in -or the English spelling (colour, behaviour, flavour, etc.) I just socialized with a lot of British people online and it stuck with me
  • I am willing to teach others how to create CC, and I help troubleshoot CC creation issues because 1. it's either easy to fix or 2. I have already fixed it in my own experience. But I do not troubleshoot game issues
Anonymous asked:

i’m new to linux and software stuff, how do i get started on understanding stuff?

Hi ! I suggest taking a look in the wiki or community for the distro you are using, as well as the Arch wiki. (Even if you are not an Arch user, it is still a good base.) There are also a lot of reddit communities and forums dedicated to answering and providing information for Linux users. @teaaddictyt has a channel in her server for specific help for TS2, and I stop by There sometimes :]

I get all of my information and help from my boyfriend, but he learned through trial and error, help subreddits, and various wikis. It's something to get used to, and I hope you can adjust well, anon.

Sclera Accessory for TS2

Finally, I’m ready to present the Sclera Accessory!

What’s the point?

This accessory helps solve a long-standing issue:

In TS2, when the sclera was painted directly onto the eye texture or used as a makeup overlay, it moved along with the iris, which looked unnatural. Players had to choose between a more realistic texture and better animation compatibility.

Now you can use eye textures with just a plain or gradient white sclera, while the lacrimal caruncle and eyelash shadow are placed on the accessory texture instead.

Thus, when the eye moves, the sclera remains in place.

How it looks in motion

this is incredible omfg

I'm currently on a Windows system and can't hop immediately to another OS as some of my programs are still windows exclusive. Almost all Windows Telemetry is disabled on my computer. My plan is to later on switch to Linux after finding alternatives or at least find some compatibility with Linux for these programs. Not to mention backup alternatives.

No Edge, switched to Firefox and Vivaldi. Fuck Copilot.

And while BDS did ask for people to stop buying Microsoft games, there is some small leeway for those who have already bought them before the boycott: you can keep playing as long as you don't buy future Microsoft products or games (source). This includes micro-transactions, don't buy them. Minecraft Realms and Minecoins, too.

Since I own Minecraft (bought back in 2012), this one hurts a bit since I started back playing it as an escape. Have been avoiding Realms and Minecoins, but I'm still concerned about Telemetry. I can avoid Minecraft's two official desktop launchers - one from the Microsoft store and the other as direct download from Mojang's site. There are alternative launchers (including cracked versions) that allow you to continue playing Minecraft without Microsoft "seeing" you playing it, even without an account. Look for no account registration launchers or offline launchers like UltimMC or Prism Launcher. Avoid TLauncher because it may contain malware. You will miss out on servers, though.

There's also the No-Telemetry mod if you still want to play on either of the official launchers or if you are using a launcher that still requires an account.

Vintage Story, Luanti, VoxeLibre (mod for Luanti) are good alternatives if you want something Minecraft-like but completely disconnected from Microsoft. Mods for Luanti can be found here. Mods for Vintage Story can be found here.

Kinda of a reminder, You can participate in small parts of a boycott if there's some things you aren't ready to move on or if you can't find replacements. Like, if the only thing you have done is letting go of is Edge and Minecraft, but not Windows, that's fine. If it's just Edge, that's fine. Just do your best!

idk why i am so allergic to animation friendly sclera masks

i guess it makes the eyes look way less detailed overall?

Why You Shouldn’t Use GShade

Even after two years, I still see people using GShade and claiming it's a safe program, when it’s really not! There are already some older Tumblr posts about this, but I figured it’s worth refreshing the issue.

So please read this

Around two years ago, GShade’s developer added a code that could forcefully shut down your computer, not because of a bug or security measure, but on purpose. Why? Because he was mad that someone, specifically a 16-year-old made an alternative way to install GShade without using the official updater. Instead of handling it professionally, the dev decided to add a malicious code as "punishment" for anyone trying to modify GShade. That’s malware behavior.

(The first spark) ↓

At that time you also HAD to update Gshade to unistall it. ↓

(Developers "Apology") ↓

Now, you might be thinking, “Okay, but that was patched out, so it’s fine now, right?” Nope. Because the biggest issue isn’t just what he did, it’s the fact that he still thinks he did nothing wrong.

The Problem with Closed-Source Software Like GShade

GShade is closed-source, meaning no one except the developer can see or verify what’s actually in the code. This is a issue when dealing with someone who has already abused their control over the software.

With open-source programs (like ReShade), anyone can look at the code, verify it’s safe, and contribute to improving it. If something shady is added, people can catch it immediately. But with GShade, you have to just trust that the dev isn’t hiding anything malicious. And considering his past actions, that’s a massive risk to take.

Even if GShade is "safe" right now, nothing is stopping the dev from adding another backdoor, data collection, or something even worse in the future. Since no one can see the code, you wouldn’t know until it was too late. And given that he still defends his actions, there’s every reason to believe he’d do something similar again.

“But I’ve Never Had Issues With GShade”

A lot of people say GShade runs better than ReShade or has better effects. That might be true, but no amount of quality or convenience is worth putting your computer at risk. Just because something hasn’t caused problems yet doesn’t mean it won’t in the future. Malicious code can be slipped in at any time, and because it’s closed-source, no one would be able to warn you.

And honestly? You shouldn’t be using software made by someone who has already proven they’re willing to mess with your computer. If a developer intentionally inserts harmful code once, they can do it again.

What Should You Use Instead?

There’s a safe and open-source alternative: ReShade

  • It’s free and open-source, meaning the community can review the code to ensure it’s safe.
  • It can do almost everything GShade does, and while it may take some tweaking, it’s worth the effort.
  • Most GShade presets can be converted to work with ReShade with a bit of adjustment.

There are guides available to help transition from GShade to ReShade Here is one: How To Move To ReShade From GShade

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, it’s your computer, and you can do whatever you want with it. But if you choose to keep using GShade, just be aware of the risks you’re taking. The dev has already demonstrated that he’s willing to sabotage people’s computers when he feels like it. He still thinks he was justified. And because GShade is closed-source, he has complete control over what’s in the code without anyone being able to check.

So ask yourself: Is that really the kind of software you want to trust?

ReShade is a safer, open-source alternative that doesn’t put you at risk.

Thank you for reading

Here are some links that discusses the whole topic:

I remember when this shit blew up before I quit FFXIV. What's even more insidious is that GShade is a fork of ReShade, but it's closed source. The audacity to make an offshoot of an open-source project closed and forcibly shut down computers because some kid didn't want to install forced updates

How To Dreamwidth: A Primer

the more friends ask me about dreamwidth, the more i realize i know a lot about this site that isn’t super obvious at first glance. so here is a primer for those of you thinking about making a dreamwidth account. this post ranges from your really basic starter tips to the completely esoteric things that come from using it for a decade.

2023 note: This post was written in 2018. While most of this post is still true, various features may have been changed or updated in the years since.

a what now? dreamwho?

Dreamwidth is a code fork of LiveJournal. A code fork means that they took LJ’s code (which used to be open source) and went their own direction with it. They still use the basic ideas behind LJ’s codebase, but have changed and improved upon it in various ways.

The core difference between DW and other websites is privacy isn’t an afterthought, but the central feature. You can lock posts, filter them to a select group, or make them visible to only you. I recommend reading through this section of DW’s FAQ for more on this.

When you make an account, you can subscribe (ie follow) and grant access to other users. Both of these are one-way – if A subscribes to B, that doesn’t automatically grant B access to all of A’s locked posts. Here’s more on this.

DW in general can be kind of confusing for people who have only used tumblr, but their FAQs are pretty good on the whole, and they’re searchable. If a website feature is confusing, start there.

okay, i have a journal. now what?

Customize it! DW doesn’t have all the latest and greatest features, but you can still make it your own. Here are some useful tips.

  • You can change your layout from Organize > Select Style. Mobile support is hit or miss, unfortunately, but there are some nice default layouts that work with it. You can also use this style for Practicality which makes DW fully mobile-friendly. If you’d rather design it yourself, Tabula Rasa is completely stripped down.
  • You can get premade DW layouts at the dreamwidthlayouts community. If you have trouble with your code, ask over at style_system.
  • Edit your profile! This is where you put your usernames for other social media sites, tell people a bit about yourself, and mention your interests. Your interests will be part of the interest search; it’s one way to find people.
  • Upload icons! Free accounts get 15 icons; paid accounts get 100 icons, premium accounts get 250 icons. You can use one icon in each entry and commment you make. It’s good form to put the maker of the icon in the comment section if you didn’t make it. If you got it from someone on tumblr, you can even link their blog using the code <user name=username site=tumblr>. (This works all across DW!)
  • While you can’t make pages, you can set a post to stick at the top of your journal, much like Twitter’s pinned tweets. Here’s how to do it.
  • You can also change how Dreamwidth itself looks, if you don’t like the red. Go to Account Settings > Display. Most other site display preferences are on that page.
  • While you’re here, look through the Account Settings > Privacy page. By default, your public entries will be included in site searches. You can turn it off at the bottom of the page if you want. You can also set it so your entries are automatically access-locked or private as well.

This got very long so the rest is behind the cut. (Now you really know I’m legit.)

ublock origin and r/piracy megathread are your best friends. anadius ts4 updater is not only suuuuper easy and safe, but also helps you stay offline to prevent issues and you can choose when to update to avoid ea's bs

Anonymous asked:

out of curiosity, what software(s) do you use? and how is it set up like dual boot?

I don't dual boot. I'm not sure what you mean by software(s) but for loading literally anything Windows, I use Lutris.

For Photoshop, I literally just install this and run it through Lutris without full-screen. I still dont know how to install the .dds tools on this method yet. All Github forks require an insane amount of set up because they are not maintained well.

For every other program (Nvidiatools install, SimPE, Hair Binner, HCDU, etc.) I also use Lutris. It really does work wonders.
