Hello guys Many of you might know me from different places (tiktok/X/Instagram) from my videos about Sudan. My name is omnia and I’m 21 years old. I had recently graduated and currently experiencing war. I had been displaced 4 times by the war and my family and I lost everything we own. After our first displacement we started a life in another city and my dad found a job, and we had a relatively stable life. Unfortunately when our city got attacked and we got displaced again our family once again lost everything we own and our lives got destroyed again. I’m an only child of two parents who both are above 60+ and struggle with chronic diseases. We have been searching for jobs tirelessly for the past months in and outside Sudan and unfortunately we haven’t been able to find any. My dad’s family are still in warzones unable to fend for themselves. Making this decision has been the hardest decision of my life. As someone that grew up financially stable, had a promising future until last year it feels very awkward and humiliating to do this but I’m left with no choice. My parents are unable to live in those circumstances anymore and if we don’t move we will starve. It’s not about me anymore it’s about my whole family. Our house in Khartoum has been looted off everything, our cars got looted, our life assets got looted. We are standing on nothing. They’ve worked their whole lives to provide me with a comfortable life and were planning to retire but now they’re starting from zero all over again but they’re too old for this. It’s my time to take over and unfortunately as someone who just graduated and lack experience my efforts of finding jobs is futile. We have decided to create this fundraising to fund my family’s escape to another country. I also want to help my family and friends in war-zones and other people in my community. We have decided to raise 25K USD through my friend’s organization and we will keep you updated in the journey. Staying in Sudan have become a direct danger to my life due to my visibility online as it puts a huge target on my back and I can no longer live like this. The latest numbers coming from Gaza state that there are about 77,575 injured Palestinians as of April 28, 2024.

I honestly see this number as a very humble one, but regardless, I said this in 2014 and it bears repeating: considering the types of weapons Israel is using in Gaza, the overwhelming majority of these injuries are severe and critical. So when we say that well over 77,000 people are injured in Gaza, we're talking about tens of thousands of people who have ended up with a lifelong disability. Thousands of amputees with no proper care. Thousands who will not be able to walk or see again. Many won't be able to go back to school or work again. Burn victims without the means to reduce or take the pain away. Many on life support and many more who will not even make it.

So many open wounds, both literally and figuratively, that we need to keep present in our conversation about Gaza.

Very true! Even minor injuries can be life threatening considering practically all healthcare systems have been destroyed. Even the dehydrated children are expected to face lifelong cognitive issues because of Israel's starvation of the strip.

yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad

I feel like a lot of people just don't know how to do it or are intimidated by the prospect. I was too, actually, and I couldn't find any good guides on how to do it (beyond basic formatting) and most guides boiled down to "just describe what you see and important details!" I really wanted to add alt text bc accessibility is important to me, but I would always get kinda stumped on how to do it.

But then I saw this image, I think in a discord server, and I immediately started doing it. It kinda broke the ice for me

I…don’t know when I remember doing this but…

I don’t know how to self-nurture. And I’m failing because of it. I’m not doing okay. Sometimes it’s better…sometimes it’s worse.

People seem to appreciate vulnerability. I doubt anyone’s going to see this. And at this point I don’t care.

I’m struggling with feeling inadequate, invisible, and well…trying to let go of many experiences I still harbor against myself. I keep pouring from a cup that’s bone dry at this point.

I’m silently screaming. I’m not doing too hot. This is a low day. But I’ll be back up again and one day…things will even out. I still have to start packing my stuff. I still have bills to pay.

I need to cry but the feeling is so foreign I can’t. A few tears may fall but…that’s it.

A lot of my subconscious feelings are coming out. I’m feeling neglected by my own hands. It’s coming out in ways I don’t like. But I can’t seem to stop creating because…that’s how I get myself out there and one day fulfill my dreams.

Money, time, my health, healing…all piling up and…I’m doing my best but…I am trudging through thick sand and mud. Zombie-like. And everyone perceives a smile. Bright eyes. Giggling. Goofiness.

I don’t have a therapist and I know I need one. I’m still waiting for them to call me from the triage list. I have to find the phone number to follow up.

There are days where I just want to ditch and chuck my phone everywhere until it’s dead and gone.

But…

I don’t feel like me. I don’t know who me is. That’s been on my mind.

I need to nurture myself. But I need to figure out how. I just don’t have energy anymore. All I feel is pain in my joints and shoulders. With no release in sight…it feels dark and gloomy.

I have hope things will come. Things are dark. I’m doing my best. I’m not as alone as I feel. Just live…every day, yeah?
