I've just looked something up, and yes, there it is - the English translation by Curtin has it as well: the proof that these two were just meant to become my favourite "Ogniem i mieczem" characters ;)

About Khmelnytsky: "He went like an avenger, like a legendary dragon..."

About Bohun: "He is a dragon, terribly intent on pursuing you."

Also about Bohun: "...that dragon of a Cossack..."

Let's ignore the fact that none of these descriptions are meant as a compliment. In my mind, "dragon of a Cossack" is of course a wonderful term of endearment :)

#dragons#artwork#Alas! This is a catastrophe about to happen...#but who could not reblog this amazing dragon? ;)#(The sad thing about it: The dragon does NOT look like wanting to eat her at all. Just look at them! This painting tells a whole story:#Some people brought a sacrifice to the dragon - convinced that's what such a monster must want - and the dragon doesn't see her as prey#but as a treasure... maybe even wondering what those humans - her own people - did to her. But the knight of course thinks he KNOWS#what dragons do. And the dragon knows what the knight thinks. And that he'll not get a chance to explain otherwise...#So yes I'm the crazy dragon apologist ;) But this painting REALLY makes it easy to be so! :))
