THE NIGHT WE MET ↳ NOW ON AO3

I absolutely loved getting to work with @consultingpacha for the first year of @fellowshipofthefics‘ The Hobbit: An Unexpected Collaboration event! Pacha was such a great partner and listened to my yelling, as well as brought many great ideas to the table!! I’d love to work with her again one day, and I hope you like this little story we managed to tie together! Be sure to give her artwork some love and attention, which you can find → here!

On a night when The Green Dragon Inn is out of vacancy, Bilbo Baggins opens up his home to a trio of displaced and rain-soaked dwarves. The two children of the bunch are happy to have a temporary home away from the rain, but their uncle, Thorin, sees it only as a debt to be repaid.

Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationship(s): Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield Characters: Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Fili, Kili, Thorin’s Company, Original Hobbit Character(s), etc.

“Bag End has a few rooms that are unused!” Bilbo practically shouted, earning an uncomfortable bout of silence within the entire main room of the pub, and three sets of dwarven eyes staring at him in both shock and confusion. “That is to say…since the Green Dragon seems to be out of vacancy…if you’re looking for a place to stay, I’d happily give you the rooms–” “I’m not looking for a handout.” The dwarf practically growled before a tiny tug came to the bottom of his tunic. Those big blue eyes of Fili’s staring back at him. “…But under these particular circumstances, my hands are a bit tied. How much?” “If you’re unwilling to take my handout as you call it, how about you just pay me what you think is fair?” Bilbo offered with a small shrug, offering a small smile to try and soothe the frayed nerves of the little ones that kept flickering their eyes between the adults. “There’s plenty of food, warm blankets, and a bathtub you can use.” “That won’t be necessary–” “The little ones look chilled to the bone. Think of their cold little toes in those boots! Some hot water and bubbles will do them some good and ensure their feet remain intact.” “Bubbles?! For my toes?!” Fili cried out in excitement as he bounced from latching to his guardian’s leg towards the stranger. “Mhm, lots of bubbles, and they’re lavender scented. You’ll smell just like a field of flowers,” Bilbo teased, his heart warming at the idea of his good deed, but the look he was fixed with by the rather exhausted-looking dwarf before him was telling. He didn’t like this, but as terrible as it was to admit, Bilbo knew he had no other choice, and was glad for that. “I’m…terribly sorry, I forgot to introduce myself first before throwing my home open up to you. Rather strange, isn’t it? Bilbo Baggins, of Bag End.” Jutting his hand out for a proper shake, it took the dwarf a few moments to so much as move. “Thorin.”

Would you ever write an angsty Thorin returns to the Shire to get his hobbit back and beg his forgiveness fic?

Avatar

👀 I don’t know how angsty it would be (probably mild at the very least), but I DEFINITELY would! I even have something like this on my ideas list! I have a plot bunny from a few years ago where I wanted to do this, with correspondence between Bilbo and the mountain slowly diminishing and him believing Thorin has forgotten about him, etc…

…so maybe I should dig it back out again?

Thanks for playing!

Spicy Box: Multiple Partners  Based on: Dragonhearted

It’s a different kind of twist on the idea of “multiple partners”, but in a way that suits the things I like to write! Anyway, I hope you enjoy, I know I had a blast writing this. And special thanks to @reshirement for hyping me through this one and being just amazing!!

18+ Explicit Sexual Content ❤️‍🔥 (Read at your own risk)

I’m not sure how many I’ll finish, but I wanted to participate in a few of these Sweet and Spicy Bingo prompts with some of my favorite universes!

The life that Thorin led meant a variety of things, both before and after Smaug’s curse took hold. It meant that solitude outside of his formerly dwarven company was absolute, and that as a royal, it meant that his life would be full of luxury. Never did he have to bend his knee to anyone else as a Prince of Erebor, and especially now as the King of The Lonely Mountain.

And yet here and now, both things were being proven wrong, though it wasn’t just one knee he bent for another, but two, of his own volition.

The lost treasure of Durin the Deathless has been sought by many and found by none, but to Bilbo Baggins, it’s merely another riddle just waiting to be solved. The self-proclaimed “Deathless” expert finds himself whisked away aboard The Ravenheart, led by the infamous Captain Oakenshield, and the two embark on an unexpected journey to solve one of history’s biggest mysteries.

“We’re to head north, and beyond the mangroves will be what you seek,” Bilbo pointed out proudly, tapping a finger against a laid out map upon the main deck. Thorin was hunched over it, studying it, and not looking too enthusiastic about their course. “You look glum.”

“Mirkwood is the last place I wanted to go,” Thorin growled, his eyes hard focused on the mapped out lands and waters of the elven kingdom. “But what I feel here matters little, so long as you’re positive we have to suffer the mangroves.”

Thorin’s glare was far more threatening than that confusing dose of flirting from earlier, making the two interactions very different and recognizable to Bilbo as he waited a moment to reply—neither afraid, nor uncertain in what he was saying. “I’m positive. I’ve practically memorized your map, as well as mine, and how they differ, it all points north. From there, we will find your key.” The lack of response was fine, Bilbo wasn’t worried, and Gloin was continuing to sail them in the right direction.

It was once they got to the shallow shores leading into Mirkwood, that was where Bilbo grew clueless. Having never left the Shire before, his knowledge of outside kingdoms dwindled, but he was certain he’d catch on, or at least pretend like he knew what was going on. According to some murmurings and background knowledge, Mirkwood was not a place to trifle with.

Happy Wednesday, Fellowship! 💚

Writers, now is your chance to tackle one of those pesky WIPs sitting on your devices! Share with us a little snippet from your latest WIP! If you don't have anything to share yet, go add a few sentences to your story!

Readers, do you want to participate? Challenge yourself to reading an unfinished fic, and leave a comment, or send the author a kind ask about the story!

I'm working on a one-shot currently (a nice change of pace tbh) for the lovely @elvain!! Here's a tiny snippet!

“One day I’ll make lembas for you,” Tauriel announced, her fingers delicately working against some of the vegetables they had procured from the Greenwood earlier in the week. “Legolas insists that one small bite can fill the stomach of a grown man—” turning her gaze to Bilbo who halted in his work, scrunching his nose at her declaration, the redhead couldn’t help but laugh lightly. “Perhaps not a grown hobbit.”

Thorin Durinul has always dreamed of making it to the big leagues in the music industry. Ered Luin’s newest citizen, Bilbo Baggins, an aspiring writer and all-around bookworm, has recently taken ownership of the mountain town’s dusty old corner shop, now, Bag End Books. They weren’t looking for love, but now they can’t imagine tackling life’s challenges without each other.

This was a place that had supported the Durinul family in more ways than just financially with Dis working there. It was a place that had helped lift Thorin back up after the loss of his father and brother, and had served as a great place to build a following. Nothing was going to tear him away from his mountain town, and those who had acted as a family to him when his had been lost—and he knew Dis felt the same way.

“Do you have a set list prepared for tonight?”

“We thought it might be fun to play on request only. Let the crowd tell us what they want to hear, whether covers or originals,” Thorin shrugged, spotting the bar, and pausing as he took it all in.

“Looks like a packed bar to me, I should have worn my shirt…” Bilbo lamented in humor before tugging Thorin along, and shouldering his way through the front door. “I call dibs on the first request of the night—”

The most curious thing about time was that, even when it did not cease to pass like wind over the mountains, sometimes it seemed to stand as still as ice. The seasons continued to pass even though it felt as though certain moments of time were frozen; immortalized. Time was a relentless thing, to be sure, but those frozen moments seemed almost like a mercy.

Or at least, that was what it felt like to Bilbo Baggins.
