Tintin the kinda guy to go out for a morning stroll and show up three weeks later with like fifteen new scars, five new head injuries and having single handedly busted a drug smuggling operation

I almost feel bad for the newspaper he works for

I mean think about it, your coworker pops out for lunch and he reappears five weeks later and hey turns out he almost died going to the moon

I've been re-reading the first parts of Black Gold and Shooting Star on loop because it's strangely therapeutic watching my comfort characters in the uncertainty of "we are literally in the build up to/start of WWII except with a thin layer of paint so the kids don't catch on to the real life parallels".

So probably more angsty drawings to come

@jimmyandthegiraffes Yes! The guy's literally doomscrolling before doomscrolling was even a thing, just checking the news over and over as the situation gets progressively worse.

Hell, even when Haddock calls almost the first thing he asks is if he has any news (and he does, but they're definitely not the ones he wanted.)

Also:

@dimdiamond Absolutely! I especially think it's really interesting to look at the Shooting Star and the whole "apocalypse" thing through the lens on "this is basically a big metaphor for everyone being terrified and powerless as one of worst wars in history is heading their way".

Like, the world is ending. The people with authority who should have an answer (the astronomers) are either snapping under the pressure and shifting blame or shortsightedly thinking about how the saturation will benefit them personally.

No one has a plan, there's no one to tell people what to do, there is literally nothing anyone can do, so Tintin just goes home to wait for the inevitable. There's nothing he can do but curse at the sky and feel bad passing entire families in their pajamas standing in the street just staring at the sky confused and scared, wondering if the bombs meteor is going to fall or not.

Somehow the thing that really gets me though is him getting home and just... His first concern after Snowy is a wilted plant? It absolutely couldn't matter less that the flowers are dying, because he'll be dead by tomorrow. But how do you process that? So, no. Worry about the mundane concern. Water the plants like nothing is wrong. Like there will be a tomorrow. He's circling, repeating the same phrase ("the end of the world") over and over like he's trying to make it sink in. And yes, he's technically asking if Snowy understands, but I'm pretty sure he's actually asking himself, because how do you even begin to comprehend that?

And then finally when the timer runs out? He begs for help.

There's nobody there with him, and even if there was, there'd be nothing they could do. It's just somehow so very clear despite all the things he's been through that suddenly he's just as helpless as everyone else. He's a terrified kid all alone except his dog and the world is falling apart around him.

Of course we all know it turns out alright in the end (and the rest of the story is, eh, not the best) but still. It's harrowing, and kind of too relatable.

Gimli: protip! If an elf comes up to you in great distress but says it's not a life and death situation there's a 99% chance it's about their hair

Aragorn: protip! If an elf comes up to you in great distress and says it is a life and death situation there's still a 95% chance it is about their hair

People have been asking for a Chang timeline post! Chang not only represents a turning point in the politics of the Tintin series, he also represents a sense of chronology in the otherwise floating timeline of the canon. While Tintin almost never discusses his past, Chang is a key part of his personal story in Tintin in Tibet.

I imagine him and Tintin being around the same age, with Chang being a few months younger.

Idk man, what if Legolas was simply his sindarin name bc the light elves couldn’t pronounce his silvan name and Legolas just did not care enough to get them to pronounce his name correctly bc most light elves don’t even try.

Imagine:

Silvan elf: Lysrilahs!

Elladan: *looks left* *looks right* whomst?

Legolas: *nodding at the silvan* hi, what’s up?

*Legolas & silvan elf have a short discussion*

*elladan, elrohir, and arwen’s brain malfunctioning*

Arwen: what was that?

Legolas: oh, that’s my actual name. Yeah, most of the noldor and sindar i’ve met don’t even try to pronounce it right, so i’ve sindarized it to “legolas”.

Arwen:...

Elladan:...

Elrohir:...

Arwen: do you mean to tell me we’ve been friends for centuries and we didn’t even know your name!?!
