Random Ramblings

@samthefrank / samthefrank.tumblr.com

Super Old Account that I will now use to mostly post randon fangirl stuff. Because where else?

I’m watching Splash (1984) which is a romcom about a guy who falls in love with a mermaid, and when she chooses a human name she chooses Madison and guy says “that’s not a real name, but alright” which seems to imply that Madison was not a name until at least the 80’s and all girls named Madison are actually named after the mermaid. thought you should know

I think...you might be right

Hooters is just an extremely American take on a maid cafe if you think about it

This is incorrect. Hooters was founded in 1983, and the first permanent maid cafe, Cure Maid Cafe, was established in 2001. Maid cafe’s are an extremely Japanese take on Hooters.

me: "have they tried not being fucking ignorant religious bigots?"

article: “I suspect that a bit of the steam has gone out of the LGBT thing,” Backman told the right-wing outlet, staying ahead of the issue. “There may be the odd protester, but if they have got armies of PR people laser-focused on that then I suspect it may be OK.”

me: no surprises there... fuck them

sandwich recipe

We go through a lot of pickles here and this recipe is a good way to use leftover brine.

This is why it's essential for new players to meet a funny little goblin/gnome/talking skeleton/other little weirdo on their first outing.

No, I'm serious

You as the DM have control over many things at your table, and that gives you a lot of authority, especially when it comes to establishing tone. By showing new players that in addition to being a grand storyteller/forgiving mentor/neutral arbiter of the rules you can also be a silly little guy™️ you also give them permission to be silly.

Lack of judgement is the first step to people feeling brave enough to try new things, and by making yourself out to be a clown, you signal that the d&d table is a (mostly) judgement free zone where they can put on a funny accent or do wacky things in character...or even (if you could believe it) be silly enough to invest in this story of wonder and whimsy that you're all telling together.

The new, updated version of my Dream Library print is available here with 3 background colour options!

Which would you most want? I would personally love to read the potentially award winning book that I occasionally have vague ideas about writing..

This print was very popular on my shop for a couple of years, which I’m delighted about, I’m only slightly annoyed that it’s stopped selling now that I finally ordered a hundred copies of it. Oh well.

Working on some new art to go up soon, but this is discounted a bit in the meantime, catch it now before it’s gone for good!

We literally cannot let them start charging 80 dollars for video games 70 dollars was already outrageous 60 was pushing it. 80 fucking dollars. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR DAMN MIND. For MARIO?!?!?!?!?

If we don’t buy it, they’ll lower the price, just like the 3DS. They make more money from 2 million people buying it at $60 than 1 million at $80

Don't even buy the console, don't let them think they can get away with this

I refuse to live in a world where a console cartridge costs eighty fucking dollars

Eighty dollars doesn't get you a cartridge.

Eighty dollars gets you a key card that confirms you paid for the game like some glorified digital steam key and makes you question why you didn't just buy the cheaper digital only version since you have to download the game anyways?

This is getting out of hand.

Sins of the Past

Commander Walters just wants to keep the world safe. All because he couldn't keep one little girl safe, a long time ago.

~~~
1974
Captain Walters watched as the stasis tube sank into the floor, filling with a special liquid, one that he had no idea the specifics of, or cared to. That wasn’t his end of things. He was merely there to keep tabs on the comings and goings of the soldiers, and provide the professor anything he needed. He and the other soldiers were there to make sure Uncle Sam was getting his money’s worth out of this whole classified fiasco.
Project Shadow.
The subject of which was a little space . . . something. No one was quite sure what it . . . he was, or where he came from. All they knew—and truthfully, all they really cared about—was the power the little guy emitted. An incredible power, with the potential to solve the energy crisis.
Or obliterate an entire nation.
Walters could guess which one the government really wanted to study.
It had all fallen to Professor Gerald Robotnik, the leading genius scientist enlisted by President Nixon himself. The professor was under strict orders to learn everything he could about this little alien, which was fine, for God and Country and all that, but he’d been given clearance to bring his granddaughter along. Walters wasn’t quite sure why, but she seemed harmless enough. A little mischievous, but nothing too terrible.
Until she befriended the alien.
Part of getting older is realizing how absolutely insane it is that basically every form of media is constantly trying to convince us that the most interesting moments of the lived human experience are happening in HIGH SCHOOL…… girl who gives a flying fuck what 16 year olds are doing.
I swear guys this next update will be the one. Just wait for the next one it'll bring everyone to tumblr and make us billions just wait.
really hope tumblr doesn't go down 😭 none of the alternatives really appeal to me…
This pretty much hits the nail on the head for me. I've been contemplating BlueSky but it just seems so different from Tumblr.
Like this is a geeky hangout in someone's basement that we just kinda cruise between the tables for conversations and passing around posts and pics and writing and such, while other social sites seem so open. Impersonal.
Tumblr's like summer camp.
Other sites are like sitting in a giant auditorium, where we're all talking at the same time, waving our posts around hoping someone will find them.
It just doesn't feel the same and if this site goes down, I dunno that I'd bother going anywhere else to essentially start over. I like Tumblr. I'm comfortable here. There are some fun people here. And I really don't want to lose that.
Think it's about time to toss out the discord links once again.
One for fans of the movie-verse. We discuss theories, plot ideas, and headcanons for the SCU and all that includes.
And one for Knuckles lovers. We talk about every version of him, with all the angst and heart-tugging headcanons that go with it.
Keep in mind these are both 18+ servers, so no minors please! (We do not allow NSFW content, we simply want to ensure that everyone is safe and comfortable.)
I'm so surprised- I just found that the "Witch Hat House," hasn't sold. This was one of my favorite posts. It's an 1866 Victorian in Lewisburg, PA, 6bds, 4ba, 3,645sqft, reduced $34.9k to $695k.
