what superpower do you think q has that he has managed to keep hidden from everyone else? how about moneypenny, bond, leiter, etc?
I struggled over answering this! I wanted to say that Q is a secret flier (i.e. risk-taker), but really, how secret is that? Between being in cahoots with Bond from day one and testing experimental tech in the field, I think people know he is.
So I'll say his warmth. It's unexpected to most people. Even to Q himself. Maybe he grew up thinking he didn't like people very much, but that became "except this person, and this person" and then eventually there were a few many people he got on with to say he hated people.
I think he tried to be cold and arrogant for all of five minutes in his job, but as soon as he saw the horrors the agents dealt with, he let it go.
And I think his warmth leads to people putting their trust in him, telling him things they wouldn't otherwise tell a soul. By the end of his first year on the job, he's a hoarder of guns, tech and the secrets of secret keepers.
I'm going to throw the rest open to everyone else (though maybe I'll come back to Bond later on! I have plenty of thoughts I need to wrangle about him).

I've always headcanoned that Q's weirdest 'superpower' is that he's just...really, really bad at holding grudges and staying mad at people? Especially if they genuinely seem sorry/hurt/upset? Especially if they're suffering in any way?
Like, I think he can hold onto his snotty little attitude for about five minutes...until he gets distracted by something else, or until the other people is visibly struggling and really needs his help, or until the other person makes the 🥺 face. Then it's all over for Q. He's a secret softie for sure...except it's not really much of a secret amongst the people who have worked with him for more than a month or so.
I definitely think this leads to people trusting in him and confiding in him about all kinds of things! For someone who works in espionage, he's remarkably bad at being cold or unfeeling, and that's like catnip to other people who are so tired of being suspicious of others all the time and just want to feel that there's someone on their side, someone they can trust, someone who cares about them.
And I have always headcanoned that Q is an experienced animal rescuer who started taking in straggly, homely strays when he was about seven years old, and just never stopped. So I think Q's more obvious/visible superpower is that animals LOVE him and he's great with them and he can persuade them to do just about anything.
Even the crankiest old cats will give a scratchy purr and rub up against Q's legs! Even the most ill-trained dogs will roll over and let Q rub their bellies!
(Many jokes about Q's animal magnetism are made once he and Bond get together. Many jokes are made about Q's magic touch when it comes to 'stubborn old dogs'. Through it all, Bond maintains a stoic silence. He absolutely refuses to admit that he does, in fact, like to have Q rub his belly.)
#00q#i also think that Q is the Fort Knox of gossip#he is the ONE person at MI6 who does not participate in the rumor mill#he is the ONE person who never repeats gossip#he can be trusted with secrets#...and okay yes maybe PART of this is because he's honestly very oblivious to most gossip#and too distracted by his hectic work to even realize what people are chatting about in the break room#but the fact remains!#people confide in Q and Q holds that SACRED#it's like a confessional seal: he is NOT gonna break it!

i just found out tumblr was storing over three GIGABYTES of cookies on my device without me knowing and that's why it's been running so fucking slow recently... incredible. anyways everyone go clear your fucking cookies. don't let this website run a goddamn video game's worth of disc space in the background for no good reason.

A distraction for you! Will you tell me about a fluffy/hurt-comfort 00Q concept you would like to write, or wish someone would write for you?
I think I’ve talked about this before, but because of tumblr’s hot garbage fire search function, I can’t find it.
Anyway, I really want to write a fic (maybe as part of the black dog series) that sees Q signed off from work with stress/burnout/depression that’s exacerbated by a terrible incident. And either Bond’s been away or he’s just come back post-Spectre, but he can’t find Q at the office and no one will tell him where he is.
So obviously, like the stray cat he is, he goes to Q’s house and finds him in the depths of a depressive episode. And he just stays. Partly because he doesn’t have a flat anymore, but mostly because Q’s house is a mess, he hasn’t been eating, and he’s one more bout of insomnia away from burning down the house during an experiment.
I really want to explore Bond’s kindness. We see glimpses of it in canon, but he’s never been allowed to be kind for very long. And I’m also keen to explore how caring for Q will help him with his own demons. After all, extending grace and kindness to others is often the first step to finding it for ourselves.
Would 1000% love to write this but it’s a very personal topic for me and I am too tired to exorcise my own demons at the moment!!!
