I could just be talking to myself again..... https://ko-fi.com/brokenmusicbox

It’s funny how differently people think. In conversation with someone I mentioned (rather embarrassed) that I spent some time today writing. The person responses surprised me…

  1. They thought I might be writing an autobiography (WTF my life is WAY too boring for that!)
  2. Well then it must be something where I am just masking it being autobiographical
  3. Okay then it must be about a life like mine and my community
  4. Then obviously it must be about my parents and their love story
  5. So is it something fictional then? Like a romance or drama or..
  6. Oh. Fantasy? Really?
  7. Writing a book is great! Just finish it and you can publish it through Amazon!
  8. You will make a lot of money. Writers make so much money!! You won’t even have to worry about finding a job!
  9. This is what you should be doing! Your purpose! Your calling!!!

Oh FFS, most writers don’t make enough to live on from writing! And this thing I’m working on? So far it’s like a doodle on the back of an envelope and they seem to think I’m painting the Mona Lisa!

I suppose assuming being a writer is like a get rich quick scheme and that it’s like some magical bestowed ability that simply must be good makes sense if you don’t write and rarely read. But assuming it would be nonfiction openly exploiting my life and lives of my loved ones baffles me. My parents and I got trapped here, and our lives withered away. While some people may consider that the stuff of “serious literature”, I have NO interest in wallowing in something as boring and depressing as my own life!
