Warning: these are pretty dark, some more so than others. i have put trigger warnings on all of them, so please heed those warnings. most of the scenarios are pretty tolerable (iād say about a PG-13 rating), but still if youāre easily triggered be cautious.Ā
There were flashes of colors exploding behind your closed eyes, burst of bright crimson and rich gold. They flashed like fireworks, silhouettes of people weaving behind the shadows. Dirt caked hands reached out to grab you through the colors, swirling darker into smokey indigo and burgundy. You tried to run from them, but your feet were planted heavily in their place. Your heart rate began to speed up, blood roaring in your ears. Another pair of hands reached out towards you, these dripping with drying blood. You opened your mouth, to scream, to tell the hands to leave you alone, but your words stayed Ā in your throat, choking you. Panic rose like bile, thick and acidic. Your body shook violently, the hands reaching out further and further, finally grabbing onto your wrists, cold and clammy.
You awoke in a panic, immediately sitting up on the couch. Youād fallen asleep for a few hours in the early afternoon, attempting to enjoy your day off, but the nightmares ravaged your mind every time you closed your eyes. It was the third time this week.
You moved your hair back from your sweaty forehead, trying to control your erratic breathing. Youād mentioned to your best friend earlier that day about the nightmares, and as if that conversation had been a summoning, here they were again. They were so real, so life-like. You shivered and picked up the business card on your coffee table: a last ditch effort. You grabbed your phone, sighing, and turned the card over before dialing the number printed boldly on the back.
āIt sounds like you have a past life problem,ā the lady before you, Dr. Weiss, stated matter-of-factly. You werenāt sure sheād even been to medical school, and you definitely werenāt sure that there was any such specialty as ādream expert,ā no matter how much your best friend swore by it. Yet here you were, desperate to be rid of your nightmares, sipping warm chamomile tea and telling Dr. Weiss every small detail about your dreams.
āAā¦ a past life? Are those even real?ā you asked, narrowing your eyes at the bushy haired lady in front of you. She smiled sweetly.
āOf course they are, and it seems like some of yours want to be remembered. It could be some unresolved issue youāve been dealing with in every life, some key to unlocking your lifeās purpose, or something else entirely. We wonāt know for sure until we send you into your past life and find out.ā
āAnd how are you supposed to send me into my past life, exactly?ā
āWeāll do a few calming exercises, and then weāll slow your heart rate and put you in a deep, realized mental state. Some mistakenly call it hypnosis, but thereās really no such thing. Itās just about unlocking your whole mindās potential through breathing and relaxation.ā
āOh, thereās no such thing as hypnosis, but youāre about to send me into my past life,ā you whispered snarkily. Dr. Weiss continued smiling at you; sheād heard your comment, but she pretended not to. Instead, she simply got you into position, laying on a semi-comfy cot and breathing in deeply through your nose, out through your mouth. She put you in a safe place in your mind, she called it.
āY/N, I need you to be extremely aware of something as you travel into your past life. Some patients only have one past life revealed to them, some have a couple options. When and if a choice reveals itself, in whatever form it takes, pick only one past life to travel,ā Dr Weiss was enunciating her words, saying them close to your ear as you drifted down, down, down and suddenly, her voice disappeared.
You were walking through a forest, the trees surrounding you on either side for miles and miles of earthy green. The path below your feet was squishy with moss, wet dirt caked under the detritus and leaves.
The forest was unusually quiet, not like a real forest, which always buzzed with wildlife, day and night. Not even your footfalls made a sound beneath you as you walked, but you continued on in the silence, trying to see through the trees as you moved.
You moved away from the path into a clearing, still surrounded by trees. The sun beat down on you, brightening the whole area but not heating anything in its rays. You narrowed your eyes against the glare, almost missing what was right in front of you.
Seven animals stared at you, cocking their heads as you approached. At first, you didnāt think they were real, and when you finally did realize these were in fact live, breathing animals, panic bubbled in your throat. You stumbled back half a step, until you remembered Dr. Weissās words. When and if the choice reveals itself.
The animals made no move toward you, nor did they show any signs of hostile behavior. In fact, they seemed to all be waiting on something, on you. You were stunned to see seven choices before you, remembering Dr. Weiss say people only got a couple choices. But you took a few steps towards them anyway, noticing that each one was standing or sitting in front of a split in the forest path.
You took a few steps more towards the animals at the middle of the clearing. As you met eachās gaze, it nodded backwards toward its guarded path, as if each wanted you to follow them down their path.
You stepped up, picking the animal whose path youād take. Taking one more deep breath, you stepped away from the clearing, down your chosen path, and followed theā¦
