I just finished Serious Weakness (I inhaled it in like, two days). Forgive me if this is incoherent, but I’ve never seen anyone really write about how fucking exhausting it is to constantly be trying to pass as neurotypical in this specific way? Like, it’s not just “masking” it’s justifying your existence now, in the past, in the future and the work is never done.
Idk if this was the intent at all, but I also feel like the way that autistic people are infantalized also kind of positions us as failures as gendered beings? Like gender actualization is almost treated as a prerequisites for being “an adult?” I’ve had vague feelings like this before. My relationship with working is pretty similar to Trianon’s and I’ve always felt like an amorphous child thing? And gendered signifiers like makeup or wearing a suit is sooooo intertwined with being “professional.”
