hello!!! i'm currently trying to self-diagnose myself with adhd because i realized i fit the DSM5 criteria, and i want to confront my doctors and parents about it- but i want todo it prepared before they just choose to brush me off. so, do you know any site like embrace-autism.com but instead of being autism-centered it's more ADHD centered? thank you ^^

Hi there,

I’ve found a few tests. Not all reliable, but I believe it’s a good starting point when suspending you have ADHD.

I hope these can help. Thanks for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

I have a question.

My mental health has been very bad recently, so bad that I have had to use NHS 111 online as I find it very hard to talk about my mental health. Anyway at the end it told me to speak to the mental health crisis service as soon as possible, but it is a phone call and I don’t know how to communicate about mental health not on a phone call so by having to use a phone it will make it harder as well as there is some problems that I don’t know why there are happening or how to communicate it. I do have autism so this could be playing into it as well as I suspect there could be something else. Do you have any advice for this phone call, like on how to approach it but also start it as I am worried that I will not call them due to overthinking it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Would it help if you wrote down the things you need to talk about? I’m not so good with phone calls either, but I know it has to be done.

Maybe my followers can share some tips/advice too?

I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

There are hotlines that offer texting or chat options instead of phone calls if you're more comfortable with it.

Here are a few I could find, but depending on where you live, you might have to search for something in your country instead (international SMS can be quite expensive/not work):

Also, you can absolutely start by telling them you don't know how to express your problems, and ask them for help about it!

Something like "My mental health has been very bad recently, but I don't know how to talk about it. Can you help me?" works perfectly fine.

Also, I advise to begin with smaller problems that might be easier to talk about. If big things that create a lot of negative emotions are hard to talk about, it might be easier to start with little problems that aren't as loaded.

Thank you so much @yannig ♥️

Hi, im sorry if this is a stupid question but does anyone else also have this weird thing about "resting"? Like, I only feel like I'm resting when I'm lying in bed and scrolling through tiktok/youtube. Even hobbies don't restore my energy. Like, I'll be drawing or just doing everything that I like on my weekends and my mind would just scream at me cuz Im "waisting" weekends even though I don't think so and I WANT to do this thing. I just wanted to know if this is somehow an autism thing or just a me thing?

Hi there,

Honestly, I don't see the connection between autism and how people rest. Everyone is different, so they're going to rest in different ways, regardless if they're autistic/neurodivergent or not.

I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/ night. ♥️

as its written on these too, checking phone=watching tv because what we are doing in both cases are looking at something we like. so its not at all useless thing to do. its very important.

aside from these warming our ears also have the same affect as deep breathing. try gently pressing a warm towel.

and most of all sleep! sleep as much as u need!

I think there is a difference between "my hobbies don't feel like rest because they use up energy for things like executive function or sensory stimuli" and "my hobbies don't feel like rest because of thoughts that make me feel like I should be productive instead and the stress from those thoughts is exhausting".

I think the first one can very much be linked to autism, because for a lot of autistic people, any type of activity takes energy. The second is a lot more widespread because that's just pure capitalist logic (which can still be reinforced by autism).

May I direct you to Hayley Honeyman's video on the different types of rest? (the title is about ADHD but she has both ADHD and autism, and this specific video helped me a lot in understand my rest needs better) :

Helloo. So, I've been diagnosed for Autism by psychiatrists and psychologists that have both been treating me for years now. Now, at 28, I finally decided to go to a neuropsychologist (? unsure if I'm using the right term) to get tested, and for some reason I'm certain she will say on the results I am not autistic. A lot of the testing and the questions felt like nonsense to me and 6 meetings of 40ish minutes just doesn't feel enough time for her to get a full escope on how the autism symptoms affect my life on a daily basis, specially because I'm still masking.

My psychistrist and therapist are both sure the results will come positive for autism. But in case it doesn't, should I just disconsider it completely? Would the two of them be wrong? Or would the neuro be wrong?

Sorry if this ask makes no sense, waiting for the results is killing me.

That sounds very complicated and is giving me anxiety. I hope everything goes well. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

Hello fellow neurodivergent! As somebody with high functioning anxiety and also believed by most of my acquaintances to be undiagnosed autistic, I was just wondering what some of the more less talked about signs of autism are?

To add to that (sorry I hope this isn’t too much to ask) would you say that being bothered by bright lights, loud noises, most textures, time changes to schedules, conflicts and arguments, and also a slow auditory processing counts as some autism traits or do you think it might be closer to something else? Also, I know some people with autism who walk on their toes and I tend to do that a lot but I can’t tell if I’m overthinking or if I’m actually really just struggling with something that hadn’t been diagnosed.

Avatar

Hi there,

Here are some of the lesser known autistic traits:

Many autistic people experience sensory overload, making everyday life difficult. Lights may be too bright, sounds may be too loud, or something you touch might make you uncomfortable too.

I hope this helps answer your question. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

Hi, I just wanted to say a big thank you, you’ve helped me discover a lot about my neurodiversity and help my friends/family further understand it.

I show my parents and close friends some of your posts that really resonate with me and it’s helped me get the support that I need.

You don’t have to respond to this but I just want you to know you’re an angel and I greatly appreciate you. <3

Thank you so much for the sweet words. I’m so glad my blog was able to help you. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

Another anon responding to the anon talking about BDS: according to all reliable measures, the Boycott, Divest, Sanction movement has actually caused more harm to Palestinians and Arabs in the area by costing them their jobs and therefore a source of income/security. If anyone would like to help the Palestinians, I would recommend donating to A Land For All, which is an organization run by both Palestinians and Israelis that is working for a two-state solution that would support both peoples and enable them to live together peacefully. I'd also recommend looking into charities that are working to get food and aid into Gaza. Several people on this site have long lists of charities aimed at supporting the civilians of Gaza and getting them the resources they need.

This might be a weird question but, can phobias be a result of autism? I’m autistic but also trypophobic, but it’s not really a fear (rarely, it is), most of the time it’s more of a disgust.

Avatar

Hi there,

Autism is neurodevelopment disorder that affects the brain when it comes to communication and the ability to interact with others. From my understanding, it doesn’t cause any phobias. However, I think it could be amplified by autism, making the phobia very overwhelming. Anxiety is really common when it for autistic individuals and other neurodivergent in general.

I hope this answers your questions. And I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

Avatar

Phobias do happen more commonly with autistic people, though! I learned that by trying to figure out why i have such an extreme fear of bugs

I FEAR BUGS TOO.

I think it’s karma from when I used to scare ants by putting in the smallest twig I could find and watch the ant freak out and run from their anthill.

Now they’re scaring me!

I think I deserve it, though…

Hey there! Folks are asking you to boycott McDonald’s as they’re one of the corporations donating a bunch of resources to Israel’s military and they’re on the BDS boycott list! Here’s the link to that - https://bdsmovement.net/Act-Now-Against-These-Companies-Profiting-From-Genocide

You probably didn’t know so just wanted to inform you!
