Joseph Scrimshaw: Person of Comedy

My new short film THE NIGHTMARE ADORABLE has almost reached its funding goal on Kickstater!

It’s a story of two hosts of a horror streaming show who sell a fun toy of the fictional eldritch horror, Bapholeth The Nightmare Unfathomable. It’s all spooky fun until an actual cultist of the real Bapholeth shows up furious about the blasphemy. The cute, cute blasphemy. 

Part horror, part comedy, part strong opinions about anger in fandom, and a huge step forward in my filmmaking adventures. Thanks for all the support over the years!

My short film, UNBOXING THE COSMOS, is up now on YouTube. It's a tale of a content creator who unboxes more than he can handle. It's dark comedy. It's actual cosmic horror. And all wrestling with our lives on the internet.

I was inspired by the idea in cosmic horror that exposure to vast, otherworldly terror makes humans face their potential insignificance. I wanted to explore the fear of soul-shattering irrelevance through the filter of our INTERNET and SOCIAL MEDIA NUMBERS. Who do we reach?

Now for irony: I would love this film to reach people. If you enjoy UNBOXING THE COSMOS, I'd love for you to do all the usual things: Like the video, comment, subscribe to the channel, and probably most vital--share on social media. Or in person!

Finally, I'm having such a rewarding time making short films. It allows me to use many of the skills I've gained over the years: Writing, acting, visual art, sound design, producing, having bats. This was the experiment I made to see if I wanted to do this. It was very gratifying to have it accepted into the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and see it with other actual humans.
