You winced as the stack of pots and pans clattered to the floor with a metallic banging that seemed to last forever. Dean barreled around the corner, gun drawn and finger on the trigger.

“What the hell?!” He shouted, seeing you standing before him, a wooden spoon in hand and an innocent smile plastered across your face. “It’s almost two in the morning, Y/N!” He shouted, rolling his eyes. 

“Yeah, and I’m hungry.” You stuck your tongue out at him. 

“What is going on…” Sam trudged into the kitchen and ran a hand through his bed matted hair.

“Y/N thinks 2am is a good time to make… what is that, mashed potatoes?” Dean sniffed, peering over your shoulder to get a glimpse into the pot boiling on the stove. 

“Yep. And now, you can’t have any.” You teased, waving your spoon in front of his face. 

“I’m goin’ back to bed.” Sam grunted and spun on his heel, ready to leave.

“Sammy wait!” You bounced after him, far too full of energy for that time of night. 

“Huh?” He turned back to you, mouth agape and eyes closed.

“You think you can just stay awake all night and-” Dean began his lecture, but stopped dead in his tracks, drawing back with wide eyes, when he saw you stand on your toes and peck Sam on the cheek. You’d never done that before. 

“Night Sammy.” You smiled and shooed him back to bed. 

“What… what was that?” Dean looked at you, completely bewildered.

“Sam was goin’ to bed. I said goodnight.” You shrugged, stirring your potatoes.

“You - you kissed him.” Dean pulled a chair over beside the stovetop and sank down into it, eyes staring somewhere in the space between your bare feet and his.

“Dean, you okay?” You tilted your head and noticed his difference in stature. He didn’t answer you, not even with so much as a nod or shake of his head, so you walked over and put the soles of your feet on his toes, then leaned down and rested your palms on his knees. “Dean.” You called, waving your hand in front of his face.

“Yeah.” He answered, blinking slowly.

“Are you okay?” You asked again.

“You kissed Sam.” He shook his head.

“That’s what you’re all up in arms about? God, I thought it was because I said you couldn’t have any of my food.” You chuckled, sinking down onto his lap and wrapping your arms around his neck, wooden spoon still in hand. “Don’t worry, Dean. Sammy’s like my brother.” You nuzzled against his neck. “You on the other hand…” You purred, nipping at his earlobe.

“Potatoes.” He groaned, pulling away. You jumped up and ran to turn the stove off, but burnt your finger on the handle of the pot. 

“Shit!” You squealed, jumping at the sudden pain.

“Hey, whoa, you okay?” Dean leapt into action, taking your hand in his and inspecting the injury carefully. “Here.” He flicked the faucet on and pushed your hand under the cold water. 

“My hero.” You feigned. “It’s not my first rodeo, ya know.” You smirked and pulled your arm from his grasp. 

“Consider me gone.” He teased, swatting your ass and heading for his bedroom. “I’ll be awake for a while if you wanna pay me a visit.” He winked. “Oh,” his voice came from almost all the way down the hall, “and bring some potatoes!”
