First real go at using the Iskn.co Slate! I used the ball point pen that came with the Slate to ‘ink’ a pencil sketch I had lying around. As you can see, my hands were a bit shaky and I think my paper shifted when I was working on the finer details of Bilbo’s face. Still figuring out how it all works! LOVE that you can export an MP4 of your work which is how I made this video! Rotated and cropped with iMovie.
Warm Hobbit. Someone gave Bilbo a dwarf sweater and he’s very pleased with it! He must have been cold. Maybe he if he washes it in warm water it will shrink a little bit? Maybe Dis made it for him?I like to think it’s one of Thorin’s old sweaters that he doesn’t like to wear much.
Inked with pigment liners on photocopy paper. XD Coloured in Photoshop.
Hi! A possible suggestion for Teeny Tiny: Bilbo giving Thorin an earful of hobbit sass. :-)
Hobbit sass is my favourite type of sass! I mean, Thorin’s a bit… well, Bilbo’s just so… cute? It’s hard to take him seriously when he gets all worked up like this! But because Thorin is a good king he tries his best to take Bilbo seriously.
Shadow Hobbit. So I’ve been playing Breath of the Wild and the moment I saw a Kakariko villager I knew I would be drawing Bilbo as a Sheikah.
“Have you heard the legend of the "Shadow Folk”? They are the Sheikah…the shadows of the Hylians. They say they swore allegiance to the King of Hyrule and guarded the Royal Family…“— Shikashi
Ahhh! I am in love with the idea of hobbits being Sheikah, the quiet ninja/guardians that go about their daily lives being all agrarian but have a secret history of guarding royal families.
Bilbo may not look like much but he’s one of the sneakier Sheikah and definitely the sort of fellow you’d want on your adventure to reclaim Hyrule Erebor from Calamity Smaug.
He can also cook up amazing dishes to help protect your party!
Everywhere I look I see Hobbit AUs! I guess that’s my thing? *looks back over the posts made this year* Yup. Definitely a thing I like to do. The process of making this was routine/boring. Pencil, scan, ink and colour in Photoshop. I need to change it up or something.
Train them with love. The lurverly @tea-blitz requested another Hobbit/Pokémon crossover with hobbits as last time I drew Bilbo with hobbits, it was him chasing off a troublesome bulbasaur and she felt hobbits and Pokémon would get on! :D I wanted to draw Bilbo obviously loving and being loved by his Pokémon!
Hobbit Headles. This line art has been sitting around since
February and I’m just finishing it up, now. I wanted to draw even
shorter hobbits and dwarves and the first thing that leapt to mind was
taking away their torsos. XD Don’t judge meeeee!
Bilbo’s had enough of your nonsense. I had posted the pencils on my other account, in case you’ve seen this before. I also posted a video of the inking process here
I like my Bilbo annoyed and feeling salty.
This was made with analog materials (pencil, paper, Staedtler pigment liners) then scanned into photoshop and coloured. I tried to play around with the colours and textures in this picture. Brushes: hard round, soft round, and some fan brush thing! Neat! I used different opacities of colour as well. The colours look so much darker when I flattened the layers. I can only assume this is because I have a dark blue background and used less than 100% opacity for some colours. I sort of like it, however, as it looks like like on an overcast or storm brewing sort of day.
Prizewinners. You do not get prize-winning tomatoes by being soft on bulbasaurs! It is best, if you get one of those huge pests in your garden, to take a broom to it’s backside and gently, but firmly, shoo it away.
If you do not immediately do this, a single bulbasaur can strip every tomato off of your tomato vines in less than ten minutes! They’ll even eat the vines if you are not careful! Such pests!
Thankfully they’re fairly docile creatures and they don’t much like straying into town. But every now and again you’ll get a young one who is curious about the taste of tomatoes!
They seem to especially like Bag End. Or Bilbo. Of course, no self-respecting hobbit would be caught training a pokémon! Hobbit life had no room for battling and training and there certainly wasn’t much room in a hobbit hole for a pokémon!
Has this obsession with mashing together Pokémon Go and The Hobbit ended with this pic? [Spoiler alert: probably not] I think I need to try a new Photoshop brush. Not quite liking this one. What I really need to do is write down the brushes I’ve use so I can find the one I want again! XD
Bilbo of Erebor.Pencils are here! He was fussy about his jacket. It had to be a green velvet jacket but not one of those greens that is so deep it is nearly black. Not a green that hides in the shadows, he wanted a green that brings to mind summer days and mint bonbons. It was a challenge for the tailor but that wasn’t the end of things… for Bilbo ALSO wanted a floral patterned lining. They had to send away to the Shire for a bolt of cloth. Well, several, actually, but it wasn’t time and money ill-spent for Bilbo started a bit of a trend among the dandier dwarves and before Bilbo could commission more clothes with the floral cloth it had all been bought up! Bilbo’s finding he has to put a bit of effort in to out-do his dwarven admirers! Er, not that it’s a competition, of course. Except it totally is! A teeny little bit.
Cell shading in Photoshop this time. I futzed about with so many colour combinations and I hope it didn’t turn out too Christmassy. XD Originally I had quite a bit of pink, then purples, and settled back on that lovely red of his velvet jacket from the movies. Bilbo also turned out quite pale but let’s pretend it’s because he’s been living in a mountain and hasn’t been out of doors as much as when he was younger.
Also, true story, I tried to get fancy lining put in an old leather jacket and the seamstress flat out refused to do it, claiming it made no sense to put flimsy fancy lining in when a good solid lining was needed. I argued that her lining selection did NOT include peacock blue or teal which were my choices so she told me to leave. I wound up turning the fancy lining into curtains for my office. The leather jacket is hanging in my closet, still without a lining.
