Hairless Feet! Frodo was just hanging out with his uncle’s friend when he decided to dangle his feet in the water to cool off. (You won’t catch him going in more than that! He’s a bit scared of water.) Dwalin joins him, anticipating his surprise when Frodo sees his bare feet… He remembers Bilbo’s reaction!
Frodo is wondering if Dwalin hasn’t got hair on his feet for the same reason he hasn’t got hair on his head!
I’m trying to up my game by doing more than just single characters! I seriously need to watch more Bob Ross on Netflix for landscapes/backgrounds. XD
Treat or Treat! Hobbits prefer treats over tricks, TBH. I know trick or treating isn’t really a European thing (and therefore maybe not a Middle-Earth thing?) but I couldn’t resist drawing Bilbo taking Frodo around Hobbiton for treats and showing off his adorable little cousin.
Bilbo’s pumpkins all went towards pies so he cut some holes in an old bucket to make a Jack O’Lantern to carry to light their way.
Bilbo’s costume is really just clothes he already had with the addition of a simple cape. His fangs are just bits of radish. XD Frodo’s costume is a pair of old pyjamas Bilbo dyed and sewed ‘wings’ onto. The little bat-ears are just fabric stiffened with a bit of laundry starch and tied on with string. Frodo is missing one of his front teeth and has a bit of soot on his nose to look like a bat nose.
Before Frodo came into his life, Bilbo was quite content to ignore such festivities but now he’s seeing it through a fauntling’s eyes and he’s excited all over again.
I tried a different brush and I like how it works! I should do an actual painting with it to give it a real test.

To Valinor. This is an old panel from a comic anthology I participated in years and years ago. The story I’d submitted had been about Sam joining Frodo in Valinor and this was my character design for Frodo.
In my mind, Frodo, being a gentlehobbit of leisure, had the time to devote to perfect ringlets. Even his foot-fuzz was coiffed!

Thorin’s getting hitched and that means even Thranduil gets a heads up about the big event. But what is this? Two ravens have messages for the Mirkwood King? Thranduil doesn’t have enough wine for this nonsense.
This part of the series took me five-ever to write and it’s the biggest part, by far.
No finished art update today because I prioritized finishing this fic but here’s a preview of Thursday’s pic post which will be inked and coloured!
Why yes! It IS Vampire Bilbo with his little familiar, Bat Frodo! XD They are off to a Halloween party! They’re gonna bob for apples and eat cakes and tell spoooky stories about haunted turnips!
Froggy Eyes. Ha! Betchy’all didn’t think I was srs?! I couldn’t get froggy-eyed Hobbit peeps out of my head so I doodled some more but this time in my official sketch book instead of on a pad of paper during a meeting.
1. Balin strikes me as a bit of a worrier. When I drew this, I imagined it being after Thorin and Dwalin had gone off together to ‘get supplies’ which usually means they get into trouble together. He’s just waiting for word to get back to him.
2. Thorin caught Kili playing with an elf doll!! I don’t imagine dwarves much care if their kids play with dolls are not but an ELF doll? IN THIS HOUSE? >:( Thorin wouldn’t be down with that. Also, I like to think of bbKili in pigtails.
3. Bilbo falling to his knees WRRRYYYY is something I like to imagine him doing. Dwarves using the good china. Dwarves eating all of his pantry. Dwarves rushing into battle. Dwarves. So many opportunities for him to do this!
4. omg. bbFrodo with so. Much. Hair. Because Thorin keeps hoping it will grow long enough to braid, dwarf-style. Bilbo knows it’s more likely to grow poofier than braidier and they argue all the time about cutting it. Then one day, bbFrodo cuts it all off with a pair of scissors and makes a mess of it. Bilbo and Thorin feel horribly guilty when bbFrodo said he did it so they’d stop fighting and it’s HIS HAIR ANYWAYS! bbHobbits in overalls and nothing else are probably the cutest things in the world. I also like to imagine that hobbit and elf children have floppy ears for the first few years then they get stiff as they age.
BFFs. I went on at length about my headcanon for this picture over here. If you look at the actual timeline Dwalin wasn’t even born until after Erebor had fallen to Smaug so he and Thorin weren’t the same age. I’m cool going either movie (where they appear to be of similar ages) or book (where Thorin is a generation ahead of Dwalin) but for this picture, they grew up together.
FYI? Dwalin has allllwaaaaays been much cooler than his nerdy cousin Thorin. Always. I cannot be shook from this stance. XD Their parents might still be making clothing choices for them but the boys are the ones picking out what to wear. Dwalin isn’t afraid to modify his sweater but Thorin would never dare to rip or cut up his clothes like that.
Their intense friendship also meant they: have the same earcuff, matching jade pendants, and they’re both doing side-braids in the same way. I’ve always thought it was cute when best friends emulate each other like that.
I really wanted to use bright colours and saturated hues for this picture! I like to imagine Dwarves, like humans, dressing their kids in bright fun colours! Plus, with a couple of trouble-makers like Thorin and Dwalin it’s best to dress them in bright, NOTICEABLE colours so you an catch them sneaking off.
Dwalin’s Kids. Every spring Thorin goes up to the pastures to inspect the new kids born to the goat herds. It’s not necessary, really, but when he does his royal inspection he always makes sure his captain of the guard accompanies him.
Dwalin grumbles about how it takes so long to get up to the pastures then he grumbles about how long Thorin always takes and must they look in every pen? And talk to every goatherd? Who cares how much the goats ate over the winter?
He generally makes a pest of himself until Thorin dismisses him for the remainder of his inspection which is when, Dwalin the big mean captain of the guard, makes a beeline for the nursery where he’ll spend hours feeding the new kids and laughing at their antics.
Thorin says nothing of their little ritual or about how happy and relaxed Dwalin is for days afterwards.
He does, however, draw the line at Dwalin keeping goats in his chambers. Which hasn’t come up… yet.. but Thorin has prepared arguments just in case.
I have such a soft spot for big gruff dwarves who have tender moments with animals! Especially baby animals! My headcanon Thorin is 10-ply soft towards his favourite ravens and when he gets kittens? Oh forget about it. He’s putty in their paws. I don’t know if it’s obvious but the kid on the left is trying to launch itself off of Dwalin’s back and there is another kid in his arms being bottle-fed. Pentel 0.3mm mechanical pencil on Paris Bleedproof paper. If i were to try to take this picture further, I’d finish it off with a regular HB pencil before scanning it.
Dwalin the goat-centaur looking all sexyfine. I mean, he probably doesn’t know he looks sexyfine. He’s just taking a break, watching Thorin take a bleating from his nephews. Ha!
Apparently, I still don’t know how to crop images properly in Procreate. I’ll figure it out eventually. Know how this image got here? I exported it as a jpg to my dropbox. I have a Zapier zap that looks for uploads to that specific dropbox folder then moves the file to my cloudinary account and tags it for this tumblr account. I have a second zap that looks for a certain tag in my cloudinary account then uses that image to draft a new post on tumblr! Then, when I have time to actually post, I just log into Tumblr and there’s a draft post with my image on it! Tadaaaa! Technology!
