To Valinor. This is an old panel from a comic anthology I participated in years and years ago. The story I’d submitted had been about Sam joining Frodo in Valinor and this was my character design for Frodo.
In my mind, Frodo, being a gentlehobbit of leisure, had the time to devote to perfect ringlets. Even his foot-fuzz was coiffed!

To Valinor. This is an old panel from a comic anthology I participated in years and years ago. The story I’d submitted had been about Sam joining Frodo in Valinor and this was my character design for Frodo.
In my mind, Frodo, being a gentlehobbit of leisure, had the time to devote to perfect ringlets. Even his foot-fuzz was coiffed!
Treat or Treat! Hobbits prefer treats over tricks, TBH. I know trick or treating isn’t really a European thing (and therefore maybe not a Middle-Earth thing?) but I couldn’t resist drawing Bilbo taking Frodo around Hobbiton for treats and showing off his adorable little cousin.
Bilbo’s pumpkins all went towards pies so he cut some holes in an old bucket to make a Jack O’Lantern to carry to light their way.
Bilbo’s costume is really just clothes he already had with the addition of a simple cape. His fangs are just bits of radish. XD Frodo’s costume is a pair of old pyjamas Bilbo dyed and sewed ‘wings’ onto. The little bat-ears are just fabric stiffened with a bit of laundry starch and tied on with string. Frodo is missing one of his front teeth and has a bit of soot on his nose to look like a bat nose.
Before Frodo came into his life, Bilbo was quite content to ignore such festivities but now he’s seeing it through a fauntling’s eyes and he’s excited all over again.
I tried a different brush and I like how it works! I should do an actual painting with it to give it a real test.
Hairless Feet! Frodo was just hanging out with his uncle’s friend when he decided to dangle his feet in the water to cool off. (You won’t catch him going in more than that! He’s a bit scared of water.) Dwalin joins him, anticipating his surprise when Frodo sees his bare feet… He remembers Bilbo’s reaction!
Frodo is wondering if Dwalin hasn’t got hair on his feet for the same reason he hasn’t got hair on his head!
I’m trying to up my game by doing more than just single characters! I seriously need to watch more Bob Ross on Netflix for landscapes/backgrounds. XD
Fancy Shoes. So I’m switching up my Thursdays in August and I’m posting old art for #TBT! (Can you tell I have another vacation coming up?) I had been searching for the comic plates and character studies I’d done for a LOTR comic anthology ages ago but I ran across this piece and decided to go with it!
This is an illustration I did to accompany a story I wrote… ten years ago! If you can’t tell (ahaha) I was going through a Beardsley phase. It was inked with India Ink and nibs on Paris Bleedproof paper and you know what? Quality materials make a difference! I dug this out of my big box of old art and neither the paper nor the ink had changed colour or faded! That’s some archival quality stuff!
More Hobbit art and fics are coming! I hope you don’t mind my doing this TBT thing once in a while.
Thorin’s getting hitched and that means even Thranduil gets a heads up about the big event. But what is this? Two ravens have messages for the Mirkwood King? Thranduil doesn’t have enough wine for this nonsense.
This part of the series took me five-ever to write and it’s the biggest part, by far.
No finished art update today because I prioritized finishing this fic but here’s a preview of Thursday’s pic post which will be inked and coloured!
Why yes! It IS Vampire Bilbo with his little familiar, Bat Frodo! XD They are off to a Halloween party! They’re gonna bob for apples and eat cakes and tell spoooky stories about haunted turnips!
Hobo Chic. Maglor wandering MIddle-Earth steeped in melancholy and regret. Drawn for @minstrelmaglor. He cuts his hair with a knife. Sometimes kind folk donate clothing to him and he wears it but doesn’t look after it until, once again, he’s clothed in artful tatters.
The thing is? This hot-ass, kin-slaying, golden-voiced elf is from Valinor and he can make anything look good. He doesn’t mean to be so attractive and stylish, it just happens!
It’s just so exhausting. XD
I know 22 September is Bilbo and Frodo Baggins’ birthday—but let us not forget that it is also the date in which Samwise Gamgee, last of the Ring-bearers, leaves Middle-earth for ever to reunite with Frodo.

First off, thank you to everyone who has liked or reblogged my art this year! I started in April and posted twice a week, every week, until sometime this fall! In 2017 I created more fanart than I had done in the ten years prior! So, thank you, for encouraging me to keep going.
I couldn’t possibly include all of the art I created this year in my summary so I picked twelve of my favourite, non-sketch Hobbit pieces (and it was hard to pick!):

I’m not 100% sure what I’ll be doing for 2018 or in what fandom(s). The Hobbit was a lot of fun but my takes on the characters/subject matter didn’t seem to resonate with very many people. Or maybe there aren’t a lot of people who like AUs in The Hobbit fandom? (Considering 90% of what I create is AU… Haha Imma never stop!) Or… maybe I just need to up my art game which is totally valid! I found that after a few weeks of producing work I quickly settled into an ‘art rut’ that I never managed to break out of.
I’ll figure it out eventually but in the meantime I think I’ll be concentrating on learning new art techniques, experimenting more, and maybe posting less ‘finished’ works and more of my art struggles and sketches in 2018.
Thank you, again. I feel so accomplished and satisfied this year! I almost feel like I am a creative person, again.
