Meet Daryl Davis. He is a blues musician who befriended many members of the KKK and convinced more than 200 members to leave the organization.

Daryl was acused by a NAACP member of setting the black race 20 steps back by sitting down with the enemy. That is until he shows all the different robes of former klans men that were given to him by men leaving the KKK.

Daryl says that as long as we are conversing, we are working for change. When we stop talking, the seeds of fear and hatred begin to get planted. Our fear leads to hatred because we hate what we fear.

Recently I tried myself to talk to a young black male and I told him about Daryl. I focused on how we shouldn't be scared to converse and learn. He instead focused on the negative. It didn't work out well, he wasn't ready to wake up. That shouldn't discourage anyone from talking. Not everyone is ready. We shouldn't let that stop us from engaging others with different views.
