These are really hot days in Florence, with hellish
temperatures. You can search some refreshment in air conditioned bar, in a park
or walking around the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. There, indeed, blow a
wind called by Florentine “Il Rifrullo del Diavolo”.
The legend tells that the Devil was chasing a priest, through the city, to take
his soul. When they arrived in Piazza Duomo, the dying wish of clergyman was to
pray for the last time. He went inside the Cathedral while Satan was waiting
him outside. The clever priest exploited this occasion to escape from a
secondary door. The Devil began to puff for
the boredom and, when he learned the trick, the puff became a vortex.
Thenceforth, when someone pass through the Cathedral, can still feel the fury
of the cheated Devil.
20000 pieces of different dimensions and 10 different colours will be use to make a copy in LEGO of the Duomo Cathedral and of the San Giovanni Baptistery.
The dimensions of this scale model will 150cm x 60cm and 65cm tall. An incredible project which will be realized by a 17 years-old Apulian guy.
From 10 am to 7 pm of the 21st of October, inside the Museo Dell’Opera del Duomo, in Florence, the curious could follow the assemblage of the scale model and, on 22 October, the Duomo in LEGO will be displayed in the museum for free.
In November, the scale model will be transferred to the Bricks in Florence Festival (11-12 November- ObiHall).
The project has been supported by The Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore and it will be assembled by the young Giacinto Consiglio with the help of some members of the group AFOL (Adult fan of LEGO) and others LEGO fan-clubs.
An incredible occasion to visit the Duomo (the real one and the copy!).

From the 17th of
October to 23rd October, marks the 16th edition of the “Settimana
della Lingua Italiana nel mondo” (“week of the italian language
in the world”), an initiative which started in 2001 under the
auspices of Accademia della Crusca of Florence, Foreign Ministry and
Directorate General for the Promotion & Cultural Cooperation.
This week want
aims to put spotlight on the importance of Italian Language and want
show the great interest around the italian culture.
This year, the
week focuses on the issue: “Italian and Creativity: brands and
outfits, fashion and design”. Events and conferences are organised
in the city during this week.
Accademia della
Crusca
Accademia della
Crusca of Florence leads this initiative. Founded in 1583, it is the most
important institute for the dissemination and the preservation of
italian language. In 1612 academics of this institute realized the
first italian dictionary and, since then, it has become a reference
point for Italy.
Its activity consist
to resolve any doubts about language, analize and update new words
and choose which one of these can officially enter in the italian
dictionaries.
Visit the Accademia
della Crusca is a trip into the italian history: you can see the
first dictionary and many more things about the culture of our
nation.
The birthplace of
Italian
Florence is
considered the birthplace of Italian language because here poets,
like Dante Alighieri and famous writers as Alessandro Manzoni wrote
their operas in florentine dialect. This dialect was also considered
the most clear in Italy.
When Italy was
reunified (1861), arose the problem of which dialect elect as
national language. Florentine was considered the best way because
Florence was one of the most important cultural center of the country
and because florentine dialect was one of the most clear language to
be undestood from other italians.
This decision
provoked many controversies among italian academics: who wished
Venetian dialect and who wished the Roman one. But Florence, thanks
also to Alessandro Manzoni and its opera “the Betrothed”, helps
florentine dialect to be elected as official language of Italy.
The present situation
The Italian
Language, today, is really changed. During the 20th Century the
language has been “hybridised” for many reasons and now it’s
become a “standard language”. Television, immigration of people
from South Italy to North and the World Wars, during which many
youngs from every italian region lived closely with others from other
regions and dialects, caused a mix that have changed the language.
Now, in the “Internet Era”, many english words entered in common
language and italian is changing again.
