Snowpiercer (2013) Directed by Bong Joon Ho
A gritty and grim yet moving and thought provoking piece of cinema based on a french graphic novel.
In 2031, 17 years after a global catastrophe that has left the world encased in ice we find the remainders of mankind surviving aboard a global travelling train called the snowpiercer.
The rich and affluent live at the front of the train and the lower classes live in disease and poverty at the back. Chris Evans brilliantly plays a man who instigates a revolution among the lower classes in order to fight their way to the front and take control of the train.
Feeling as relevant to our times as any other film made this decade, snowpiercer is often brutal and haunting but yet very poetic and hopeful as well as action packed. It is a largely unknown masterpiece of the science fiction genre and needs to be watched and remembered in order to hopefully secure it’s place among the greats.
