Urgent: I have to attend a summer camp run by transphobic old people, and because of it I have to present as my agab. Do you have any advice for dealing with dysphoria and two weeks of misgendering?

Lee says:

Practice self-care!

If you’re able to, affirming yourself in a diary or journal by writing your gender identity and pronouns and chosen name in little drawings can make things a bit better, and if anyone saw it, you could say it’s someone else you have a crush on back from home. You could also wear underwear that you like (because it’s under your clothes you might be able to do it unnoticed) or use feminine/masculine gendered toiletries you bring with you, like soap or shower gel, and if questioned just say you like the scent or it was on sale.

Also, check out our camp tag to see if there’s anything in there that applies to you.

Followers, how have you managed dysphoria during summer camp if you’ve had to stay closeted?
