sorry to bother but i have brought up lgbt+ topics to friends before which they were chill w/ and my sis knows+supports a lot of lgbt+ people. so i know these people are chill w/ trans people and i feel safe to come out, but for some reason anxiety gets the best of me. any tips on getting over nerves before coming out?

Knowing what you’re going to say and rehearsing it can help reduce your anxiety because you aren’t just “winging it”, so writing an outline or letter of what you’re going to say can help you feel prepared- we have a Coming out letter template and Coming Out Letter tips. If you’re coming out via in-person conversation instead of a letter/note/email/text, try to do Belly breathing before you start talking, and take pauses if you need it.

Coming out to one person first might help because then that person can support you when you come out to the others. Also, planning something nice to do for yourself after you come out as a treat can be a bit motivating. Setting up a deadline when you’re going to come out by can also help make sure you actually do it! Anxiety
