When you returned to the living room, clutching a hot cup of tea you were surprised to see that Cas was sound asleep on your couch. It was such a strange sight–Cas asleep–but you felt your heart skip a beat as you took in his relaxed expression and dark eyelashes. You bit your bottom lip and set the mug down on the coffee table.

You grabbed his trench coat as silently as you could and began to cover him over with it. As you settled it against his shoulders, he stirred and you felt him gently clasp your hand, eyes fluttering open.

He sat up, not relinquishing his hold on you which was causing goosebumps to rise on your skin. “I’m sorry,” he said, taking in a deep breath and looking around somewhat bewilderedly. He quickly dropped your hand when he realized his gentle contact with your skin, but couldn’t ignore the strange feeling it was producing in his chest. He felt suddenly warm and he cleared his throat. “I didn’t mean to–I’m sorry I fell asleep,” he said.

You took a seat on the coffee table next to the tea you had brought for him and chewed your bottom lip. “Don’t be silly,” you said. “I brought you some tea, if you’d like…”

He accepted the warm mug from you gratefully. “Thank you,” he said, wrapping his hands around it. His trench coat fell from his shoulders in a soft pile beside him.

Cas looked suddenly distressed.

“Cas? What’s the matter?” you asked, feeling your eyebrows drawn down in concern.

He wouldn’t meet your eyes. “I–I’m sorry to show up here like this.”

You shook your head, not understanding. “What do you mean?” you asked.

“I’m ashamed that I am no longer useful. Without my grace–”

You let out a noise of understanding that was somewhere between a gasp and a laugh. “Castiel!” you interrupted him. “You think I care about your missing grace? You think I care that you’re mortal?” You took the mug from his hands and set it back down on the table. “The only thing I care about is you.” At these words he finally raised his blue eyes to connect with yours. You continued, “I don’t care about your angel mojo or–”

But you were stopped when Cas’s lips collided with yours and he cupped your face gently between his hands. Your surprise melted away into bliss and you kissed him back eagerly.

At length you broke apart, but only slightly and there were stars in his eyes and disbelief and joy in yours. “I’m just glad that I have you back, grace or not,” you whispered to him.

Cas smiled. “Without you, the seasons simply pass me by. There’s no meaning to any of my days.”

You bit your bottom lip, and he couldn’t resist that expression, crashing his lips into yours again.
