So I’ve been thinking about this a lot, about why Kylo seems so upset about a single Stormtrooper defecting. And I’ve got a few vague and probably hard to describe feelings on the subject. So let’s go.
As far as Kylo is concerned, everyone in his life has turned on him. His mother sent him off to Luke, Luke tried to kill him. So on and so forth. Presumably from within the First Order, no one has left him. Okay, so they might all be brainwashed soldiers, or neurotic control freak generals, but like, they didn’t turn on him. Until now. One stupid Stormtrooper has managed to remind him what that feels like.
From there and possibly alternatively, I wonder if there is perhaps a sense of jealousy. Somehow (obviously Snoke being involved) the scared boy Luke saw ends up with the first order and at first it’s great, he belongs. He’s getting training and has power and control. But what if he realises he made the wrong choice? And it’s too late. He’s already in for a penny, in for a pound. And he can’t exactly just, walk out the front door and go home can he? But then this stupid Stormtrooper gets to leave reminding him he’s trapped.
Anywho, just been thinking.
