I want everyone to stop for a moment, and listen to this.  The Avatar fandom is devoted to the characters and story. However, can we please never forget just how wonderful of an uncle, Iroh was to Zuko!

All the characters of the show avatar struggled with something in their life, but not all in the same way. Zuko’s biggest struggle was choosing right from wrong, and being himself.

Zuko was obsessed with earning his father’s respect and love that so many times he ignored how much Iroh respected and loved him. That does not make Zuko a bad person, it is understandable. When you want someones love and respect so bad, it is easy to forget or ignore the ones that already show you that.

Let’s look at a few examples to why Iroh is so wonderful:

He willingly went into banishment with Zuko.

Despite the fact that Ozai has taken away Zuko’s title as prince, Iroh still calls him that with respect.

Even when Zuko insults him and snaps at him, Iroh always remains calm and speaks to him with respect.

When his son died, Iroh made sure to help his nephew.

Whenever Zuko made a wrong choice or failed at something, Iroh never made him feel worse than he already did. Unlike Ozai, who saw nothing good in Zuko. Iroh always found the good in his nephew, and reminded him of all his accomplishments.

He taught Zuko to find happiness in himself, and that he didn’t need his father’s love and respect to do great things.

When Zuko betrayed him, he was full of sorrow not for himself, but because he believed he had failed at helping Zuko find the right path in life.

When Zuko asked to be forgiven, without slight hesitation he does, and embraces him.

He always reminded Zuko, that just because he couldn’t get love and respect from his father, does not mean he was a failure or unlovable.

Iroh and Zuko’s relationship will always be my favorite part about Avatar. That is because when I was growing up, and having a lot of issues with my family, mainly my father. I would have loved to have someone like him in my life.

We need more people like Iroh, because there are a lot of us out there that feel just how Zuko felt, and that doesn’t just mean only people who have had bad relationships with their father.

There should be more people like Iroh out there, for anyone that feels the way Zuko did when it came to his family.
