What’s Up with “Abided” and “Abode”?

💁‍♂️ So, in the past tense, both of these would be correct: “The Dude abided. The Dude abode.”

But then it gets crazy: the past participle of abide can be abided, abode, or abidden. (To be fair, we’ve never heard anyone use “abidden,” and some dictionaries mention it as being archaic.)

“The Dude has abided/abode in our hearts and minds for close to two decades.”
