Important Information for 5K Racers
Friday is race day in Oakville and we are so excited to welcome you and your family and friends to the 10th annual Trek or Treat Night Trail Run! This is going to be our biggest year yet and we can’t wait to see you all! Please note that there is no race day registration for any of our Oakville events.
In order to make your Trek or Treat experience great, here are some important tips.
Stat time:
The 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:45 p.m. Bib pick-up is available on-site from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Your disposable timing chip is embedded on the back of your bib. After the race this does not need to be returned. Once you have your bib on the front of your shirt/costume, please be careful not to walk over the timing mats at the start line…until the actual start of the race.
Food Donations:
Please don’t forget to bring a food donation for the Oakville Fare Share Food Bank. Our goal is to raise 1,500 pounds of food. You can find a list of most needed items here. Please place your donations in our bright orange “pumpkin” food donation box.

Trek or Treat Oakville is held at the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre located at 1280 Dundas Street West in Oakville. GET DIRECTIONS
Activities
Plan to arrive early to take advantage of face painters, a balloon animal artist and free portraits by our professional photographer (available on a first-come, first-served basis). There are also fantastic Halloween displays to enjoy.
Bib Number Pick Up
Starting at 4 p.m. racers can pick up their bibs inside the main building at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre. Please pick up your 5K bib by 7 p.m. to ensure that you will have enough time to get your bib on and make your way to the start line.
YOUR CHIP TIME WILL BE EMBEDDED IN YOUR RACE BIB. Please ensure that you have your bib on before you start the race.
Please ensure the following:
a) If you are racing with family members, that each person is wearing the correct bib number.
b) Bib numbers must be worn on the front of your costume or race clothing.
Once you have your bib, we encourage you to please step away from the pick-up table to allow others access to pick up their bibs.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PARKING**
The closer we get to race time, the tighter the parking gets! Please carpool if you can. Please arrive with ample time to park, pick up your bibs, get them pinned on to costumes and get to the start line. Please be patient and follow our parking marshals’ instructions.
Flashlights and Headlamps:
Do not be deceived, the race course is dark. It is mandatory that all participants (excluding those in strollers) carry a flashlight or wear a headlamp. Our course markers are only illuminated when a light shines on them.
If you have rented one of the Princeton Tec headlamps - please arrive with enough time to pick up your headlamp at the headlamp table. You will be required to leave one piece of ID in order to receive your headlamp. This is to ensure the return of each headlamp. Thank you for your cooperation on this request.
Clothing:
Please dress for the weather! It can be cool, wet and windy at this time of year. Hats, mitts and warm/weather resistant jackets are recommended.
Race Shirts:
For those who wish to purchase a shirt on-site, there is a selection of men’s, women’s and youth sizes available. Please note that supplies of sizes are limited! The price is $40 for adults and $23 for youth. Cash only please.
For those of you who pre-purchased a race shirt, please visit the shirt table with your ID or proof of purchase (receipt).
Start Time:
The 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:45 p.m. A lead rider will guide the first runners on the course. A bicycle paramedic will follow the last participant. The start line is in front of the giant inflatable finish line in front of St. Volodymyr.
Post-Race:
Pizza, candy, hot chocolate and coffee will be waiting for participants with a BIB NUMBER inside the main building at the end of the run. Awards will take place after the race.
Allergy Alert:
All of the candy served at Trek or Treat is peanut free (with the exception of the gluten free goody bags). However, other food items on-site may contain peanuts, and third party food vendors (including our pizza, hot chocolate and coffee suppliers) cannot guarantee products have not come into contact with nuts or other allergens. Other food items may also enter the facility that are not peanut/nut free. Please exercise extreme caution if you have an allergic child. This is NOT an allergen-free event!
Strollers:
Strollers are welcome in the 5K Run/Walk. We encourage those of you with strollers to start nearer to the back. You will need to be aware of one smaller gate area that may cause a bottle neck with larger jogging strollers near the start of the 5km race.
Candy Station:
There is a candy station and a water station on the course.
Dogs:
Please be reminded that pets are not permitted on the grounds or in the event.
Washrooms:
There are washrooms inside the facility.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday night!
