Q&A

claraml12 said: Hey cassie! first, thank you. We know that this is a very difficult time for you and we appreciate everything you do for us. That being said, WOW the wicked ones was so good!! But also i couldn’t stop myself from feeling so bad for Celine. Not only her life was so horrible but also her death and the way she is remembered i feel like it doesn’t do her justice. I guess what i want to know is: will Jace learn more about his mom? Where she came from and why she did the things she did?

Aw, Robin and I are so pleased you liked it! Céline’s life was a tragedy, but I do think part of the tragedy was that because of her parents and because of Valentine, she felt she had to keep so much of herself a secret. Nobody else ever got the chance to really know her. She also never got the chance to be a mom: we don’t know what she would have thought of being a mother, or whether she wanted to be one. Given how her own parents treated her, I think we can say with confidence that she would have been horrified to see Jace in Valentine’s hands, and grateful to Maryse for taking Jace into her heart and being his living, loving, imperfect but trying mother. Evil often brings injustice with it, and there are too many women who rest in forgotten tombs: we told this story because we wanted to let you guys in on the before-untold story of Céline. Only you know her secrets. That said, Jem is able to tell Jace a little.

–Yes indeed, and yes. That is to say… Alastair is getting at least one. And we know at least one of them. (Where’s the fun, if love is not a complicated thing… and Alastair’s love life is definitely complicated!)

Yes indeed you will!

Céline died under mysterious circumstances. She never had 100% trust and faith in Valentine–she was far more invested in her love for Stephen, and would have been devastated to lose him, as she’d put so much of her hope for happiness in him, and when they were married I am sure Stephen was at least kind to her. Whether that meant she took her own life when she did lose him, or if it meant she tried to bolt while pregnant with a child Valentine wanted and was stopped from doing so… well, either way, I don’t think Céline ended her life feeling much trust or faith in Valentine at all.

Cause that’s pretty cool. On another note, I remember reading that there would be short stories/novellas (?) about the TLH gang leading up to the release of Chain of Gold? I know it’s down the line but I just can’t wait to read about them ♥️ Love and thank you for existing and writing, I hope all our love can help mitigate the absurd hate.

My readers are the greatest comfort I can imagine. You are all so lovely to come and love my characters, and fill the world I’ve imagined with your company, and I believe love is always stronger than hate. Thank you for the love!
I think Tessa is probably the first person to have ever made out with a Silent Brother, yes–the Silent Brothers are very remote and thus removed from those kinds of urges, and people don’t often have those urges around them! (No offence to Brother Enoch, a very striking man.) It’s a testament to Jem’s own heart, and to his attachment to Tessa, and hers to him, that he was kept closer to humanity than any other Silent Brother and thus the human love he cherished, and that she guarded for him when he could not.
… Of course it’s POSSIBLE that someone took a wild hair and macked on Brother Enoch. Don’t hate the silent player, hate the silent game!

There are going to be vignettes in Chain of Gold–short stories in which we see crucial events from the past of the characters–and we’re thinking that we will release them early as a taster for what’s coming: how James first met Grace, how Lucie first met Jesse, and different takes on things we’ve already seen–Anna’s love life, Matthew’s sins, and the time James, Matthew, Thomas, Christopher and Alastair spent at Shadowhunter Academy. And you never know what else you might get. ;)
We’re coming up on a Shadowhunters fiesta, with Queen of Air and Darkness, then Red Scrolls, then the release of the bindup and last stories of Ghosts of the Shadow Market, and then Chain of Gold! I hope you will like it all, and I am really excited for you guys to start on the adventure of the Last Hours with me!
