FASHION & STYLE: BALMAIN & VERSACE MEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2019 COLLECTIONS
By Rafa Carvajal & Michael Bustamante
This week’s Wire Magazine Fashion & Style special issue features the Men’s Spring/Summer 2019 fashion collections of iconic brands Balmain and Versace. For Spring/Summer 2019, we see a return of elegance and tailoring with an array of stunning suits. Short shorts also make their way into the spotlight, so make sure to keep your leg day workouts going strong come next spring. Clashing patterns are also a big thing for SS19, turning otherwise boring outfits into vibrant ones. Investing in some nice sandals will be a great complement to your favorite pieces from these collections in our South Florida weather.

According to designer and the creative director of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing, “Music forms a key part of the Balmain DNA.” Separating the two, music and fashion that is, is nearly an impossible task. Balmain has been responsible for influencing many high profile artists and celebrities over its many recent seasons. From Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, to Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot, everyone is part of the Balmain Army (#balmainarmy). “For next spring, both the Men’s collection and the second offering of our Women’s Episode Collection build directly upon the incredible style, music and message of the artist who has been on auto-replay throughout my entire life: Michael Jackson,” Olivier explains. Heavily influenced by Jackson, Olivier recreates some of Jackson’s most iconic wardrobe pieces, as well as American signatures, which can be seen on the runway and are referred to as a French offering. This season, Balmain delivers a mix of blue, white and red riffs on French iconic styles, which rely on the mastery of Parisian couture embellishment techniques and precision tailoring.

The Versace man is “Bringing sexy back – in the office, out on the town, back to his place.” According to Donatella, “What I put on the runway was inspired by many different kinds of men: the street-style star, the high fashion man, the boardroom executive. I conceived these clothes thinking that each of them could find something that perfectly fits his personal style. These are men who do not care about the rules and that is exactly what I love: they have an opinion and make their own style choices.” As we all know, the Versace man isn’t ordinary, he’s a walking statement, effortlessly turning heads everywhere he goes, which is exactly what this collection is all about. For Spring/Summer ‘19, Versace focuses on a very sexy view of masculine sensuality with uses of lace, sheer, neon and floral prints in a modern context. Jackets are worn with baggy denim pants. The women’s Icon shoulder bag is paired with printed silk pajamas, faux python overcoats and black or white looks, further making the Versace man the center of attention.
