Attention (Joker x Reader)

“Imagine running away from the Joker because he’s been ignoring you.”

Requested by Anon: “Can you do an imagine where the joker hasn’t been paying attention to you and when he does he kinda just ignores you so the reader leaves and he realizes she left so he goes after her and talks to her about it”

It was early in the morning, the sun had barely started to peak out from behind the clouds and here you were. Cooking breakfast in the kitchen. You had made a routine of it, every morning you’d get up and make him breakfast and coffee. You weren’t sure when you started to do it but now it was a thing. You smiled to yourself as you flipped over a piece of bacon in the pan.

You heard the footsteps coming down the stairs as you finish platting the food. When he finally steps in the kitchen, he’s fully dressed and ready to leave. You smiled at him as he sat down to eat. “How did you sleep?”

“Fine,” he sighed, drinking some coffee.

“So um, do you think you could stay home for the day with me?” You asked, feeling nervous while you poked at your food with your fork as you waited for him to answer.

“I can’t, not today,” he grumbled.

“Oh okay, that’s fine then.” You faked a smile and stood from the table, clearing it off. As you carried the dishes back to the kitchen, you got an idea. You placed the dishes on the counter and made your way back to the other room.

“How about tomorrow-” your voice trailed off until it went quiet. The room was empty except for yourself. You could hear a door close from somewhere else in the house and it was clear that he had left.

He was gone.

The day had gone by so slowly for you. As you sat on the couch, romance novel in hand, you found yourself feeling sad. Reading stuff like this just reminded you of how broken your relationship with him was. He’d never hurt, psychically, but emotionally he had crippled you. After being together for a year, things had started out great. He’d been loving and even convinced you to move in with you. And now you were barely seeing him. None of this was fair to you, you’d tried everything to pull his attention back but nothing had worked. You just wanted the old Mr.J back, that was all.

You leaned forward, placing your book down on the table. You took a deep breath in before you stood. You knew what you had to do and you didn’t care how he’d react.

The morning rolled around and the Joker laid in bed as he started to wake up. He couldn’t remember much about the night before but he knew he came home and crashed. His headache continued to pound so he knew there must of been alcohol involved. He groaned, tossing the sheets and blankets aside as he pulled himself from the bed. He moved through the hallways until he reached the kitchen. He was still groggy so he moved slowly towards the coffee maker. He reached for the pot, prepared for it to be heavy with coffee. He was shocked to see that it was completely empty. He shrugged, figuring that you were probably still mad at him. He felt vibrating in his pocket and pulled out his phone.

“What is it?”

“Hey boss, the guy you were meeting with today is dead.”

A grin spread across the Jokers face, “Ya don’t say? How unfortunate. I’ll just stay home with (Y/n) then.”

At this point, he was awake. He looked around the kitchen, realizing that there was no breakfast or any sign that the kitchen had been touched. Something felt off, he didn’t remember you even being in bed the night before either. Worry then overcame him, he searched the apartment fully before the realization finally hit him that you had really left.

It was quiet and the silence just reminded you why you were back here in the first place. Part of you wanted to go back but you knew that J would never change if you did. You were glad that you had kept this old apartment of yours. It’d remained untouched for several months now so some routine cleaning had been needed. You spent most of your morning dusting and cleaning, happy for the distraction if you were being honest with yourself. You heard the door open and you were now face to face with the man you’d left.

“You haven’t come here in months…” he looked around the room before his serious gaze returned to you. “Why come back now?”

“Well if I’m going to be alone, then I’d rather be here.” There was a bitterness in your voice that had been unintentional but you didn’t regret it.

“Alone? You weren’t alone.”

“Wasn’t I though? J, you’ve barely paid any attention to me. I know you’ve been busy but you should at least make some kind of time for me.”

He sighed, running his fingers through that green hair of his. “You’re right.”

“You just don’t get-” you stopped dead in your tracks, your eyes wide as you stared at him. “Wait what…?” You had been so prepared for an argument to break out between the two of you that you never even conceived the possibility that he’d agree with you.

“I said, you’re right. I’m sorry,” he stepped towards you, closing the distance between the two of you. “Come back with me and spend the day with Daddy.”

You blushed, nodding your head. “Alright but if you neglect me again, I’ll find someone else who’ll give me the attention I deserve.”

He smirked, leaning down to capture your lips with his own. “Sounds like a deal, Kitten.”
