Troyes is a city that is Southeast of Paris in the Champagne region of France. It’s one of the best cities in which to experience the unique charm of half-timbered houses. Half-timbered architecture is when the skeletal portion of a house is made of timber. The timber skeleton is then filled in with any combination of brick, chalk, plaster, or clay.
The houses in this photo date back to the late 16th century. The town experienced a devastating fire in 1524 causing much of the new construction to be these beautiful half-timbered houses which have survived throughout the centuries.
Exploring this city at dusk after a storm was one of the many magical experiences I have had in France.
