A giant water drop, a skit, and 300 villagers

That’s a giant bar of soap strolling behind the giant water drop. Live music sets the pace.

Last week in Tajikistan, 300 villagers came out for a nutrition and hygiene campaign in the Hosilot Village of Bokhtar District in Khatlon Province.

The event included a skit about the importance of providing healthy foods to children and a quiz on hygiene and nutrition, along with a drawing contest, poetry readings, and dancing. A visit from the larger-than-life water drop and soap emphasized the importance of good hand washing practices.

This was the first in a series of campaigns that IntraHealth International’s new five-year Feed the Future Tajikistan Health and Nutrition Activity will hold.

The activity focuses on 12 priority districts in Khatlon Province, which reports some of the highest rates of child stunting, wasting, and underweight levels in the country.

With our partners and the government of Tajikistan, we’re promoting healthy behaviors and practices especially among women and children in their homes, like consuming nutrients-rich food, improving sanitation and hygiene, and increasing use of appropriate health care services.
