Why #IHeartHealthWorkers

I love health workers because of Rakhi Rawa, an ASHA, or accredited social health activist.

Rakhi herself is a mother of two children. And I love her for the courage she showed in saving Mrs. Preeti and her baby (above).

Mrs. Preeti is now a mother of four daughters. She had very high blood pressure and leakage at the time of her labor pains. She was referred to a bigger specialty hospital, but unfortunately could not bear the burden of the high costs.

But Rakhi (below) didn’t give up and took her to an affordable health facility where she gave birth to her beautiful and healthy baby girl.

But that’s not all. Rakhi encouraged Mrs. Preeti and her husband to also obtain family planning services and to commit to bringing up their four daughters in the best way possible. ‘In India we believe that girls are goddesses,” Rakhi said. “I want to see you both treating your daughters as goddesses. If you do, I am sure you will flourish like anything.'

I love you Rakhi and respect you for treating people as your own.”
