1. NINTENDO SWITCH SPORTS - REVIEW ROUNDUP!

We’re just taking a moment to remember the absolute craze that was Wii Sports. Fighting with siblings over whose turn it was, fighting with siblings when one of you beat the other, fighting with your Grandmother on Christmas Day because she’d somehow managed to accidentally hit a fast serve on Wii Tennis that saw to your demise. It was an emotional time.

Fast forward to 2022 and we’re on the cusp of a modern day rematch with Nintendo Switch Sports! I don’t care about your bad hip, Grandma. Game on.

Review scores have started to appear online and so, we’re here with the best of the big names to help your pre-match assessment:

What strikes me more than anything is how effortless Nintendo makes it all feel: complex sports stripped back to their bright essences, single-player and multiplayer fun folded together with no muddling. And motion controls delivered in a way in which I have to admit I’ve barely thought about them yet. Why? Because it just all feels entirely natural.

Really, as long as you’re planning to play Nintendo Switch Sports online or with friends, you’re going to have a great time. I can’t stress enough how wonderful it was to have my now teenage children in the same room for hours on end playing something together. Yes, it’s on the lighter side as a package, and yes, there could be more sports ready to play right at launch, but I’m entirely confident that what’s here right now is a fantastic, fun time, and that if you enjoyed the Sports games that Nintendo has put out before, you’ll enjoy this too.

Overall Nintendo Switch Sports brings forward a fun, first-rate, much-loved Wii series to the Switch console. Classics such as bowling and chambara can now be enjoyed by newcomers, while long-time fans of the series can relish new additions to said classics - for example, special bowling - as well as new mini games.

    IGN - 7/10

Nintendo Switch Sports, like Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort before it, is best played as a party game, broken out for any gathering that needs a quick injection of goofy, active fun. While its sparse mixture of old and new sports varies in quality, Switch Sports largely sticks the landing on what made its predecessors memorable: intuitive motion controls, the ability to effortlessly get a group of people up and moving, and some killer menu music that’s liable to get stuck in your head all day.

    Polygon - In Progress

Nintendo Switch Sports, on the other hand, feels complete, which I admit is a silly thing to say considering the damn online mode isn’t available yet. But I’m talking comparatively. In contrast with the barebones predecessor, Nintendo has put all of its typical polish into each of the discrete minigames. I expect all six of them will have their dedicated fans who declare theirs to be the best of the bunch.

    Gamespot - 7/10 (In Progress)

After all these years, it’s easy to associate Wii Sports most with its popularization of motion controls in gaming, but its greatest achievement may actually be that even after 16 years, its core gameplay design is a potent reminder how much fun simple games with friends can be. I didn’t realize how much I needed a Wii Sports-like experience in my life, until playing Nintendo Switch Sports.
