Interpreting Brexit in Bible Prophecy: Centralized World Power Shifts Away From Europe

The scriptures are clear, in these latter days all nations will be brought under the authority of one government, the unholy regime of the beast. “The beast was permitted to wage war against the saints and conquer them, and he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. And all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast, all whose names have not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.” (Rev 13:7-8)

In the short term, Christians can appreciate any movement away from globalization. For that reason, we can applaud Britain’s decision to separate from the European Union. But we also recognize: the scriptures will be fulfilled on God’s schedule! All these historical events move toward the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the time of the Christian protest against Roman Catholicism, the Protestant Reformation in Europe, it’s been the consensus of the chosen few that the beast of biblical prophecy would arise out of Europe. That is, after all, where the center of world power has resided for centuries. The far east nestled the sleeping giant of China. To the south there was the undeveloped and dark continent of Africa. And the western nations of North and South America were just youngsters.

The mighty nations of Europe: Italy, France, Spain, Germany and Great Britain, have long dominated world events. No wonder that the reformers saw Rome as the fulfillment of the Bible prophecies that point to a centralized final world empire ruled by Antichrist. But today Rome is only a shadow of the city-of-power that it once was. World power has moved away from Europe.

Today, literally, we are witnessing the further break-up of centralized power in Europe. The Brexit move of English voters away from the EU is just one more step in the dissolution of Europe’s long-held grip on world power.

There is only one superpower in the world today. Many times stronger than any other nation militarily, the USA. Many times more influential in world events than any other country, the USA. Actively involved in almost every nation on earth in one way or another, the USA dominates the world stage.

Whither shall the United Kingdom go? Where else? As it turns away from the east, there will be a vacuum to be filled. And the UK will look to even further strengthen its ties with the US. This will only add to America’s status as the world’s only global leader - as the EU slips and slides into history.

In the long term, Brexit is one more piece of the puzzle put into place, as the big picture emerges. An international world government is rising as the Lord has told us, a new Roman Empire fulfilling the prophecies of Daniel.

And its power-center is increasingly recognizable.
