With Sam and Dean gone on a hunt on the East Coast, Castiel was left with you.  Unfortunately, you were sick.  Castiel wasn’t familiar with the flu, but he was sure it wasn’t life threatening to you.  He made sure to watch you carefully.

Castiel padded to the kitchen after reading articles on your laptop about the virus.  He was going to make you some toast to test your stomach.  That was one thing the angel could do without setting the bunker on fire.

Once he prepared the toast, he walked back to your room.  Castiel poked his head into your room, seeing if you were awake.  He learned that humans rested more when they were ill.  You were no exception.  Netflix was streaming on your tv, but you hadn’t moved.  Castiel took it upon himself to enter your room.  He set your toast down on the nightstand nearest to you.

The angel sat down on the edge of your bed, being careful as to not disturb you.  He looked you over, noticing how you had started to sweat under all of your covers.  There must have been three layers of blankets on top of you.  Castiel put his hand to your forehead.  You were indeed warmer than you normally should be.  Castiel removed the first blanket, folding it and setting it aside.  He did the same with the second blanket as well.

As you stirred in bed, Castiel couldn’t help but feel slight guilty.  He thought he had was the reason you had woken up.  However, that wasn’t the case.  You felt awful.  You couldn’t remember the last time you had the flu.  You rubbed your the sleep from your eyes as they fluttered open.

You smiled feebly at the angel.  “Hey Cas,” you spoke, sleep still evident in your voice.

“Hello [Y/N],” Castiel replied.  “I was bringing you some toast.  I read that it’s better to eat something plain for now.  If your stomach can handle this, I will move to oatmeal.”  Castiel was proud with the information he learned on the influenza virus.  “I see you haven’t touched the water I brought you before.  You won’t get better if you don’t try to [Y/N].”

You heard your stomach grumble.  You were still reluctant to put anything in your stomach.  The last time you went to go throw up, Cas had to hold your hair back.  You felt bad having Cas wait on you hand and foot.  He should be with Sam and Dean; not here doting on you.

The angel furrowed his eyebrows together in confusion.  “[Y/N], I don’t mind taking care of you,” Castiel reassured you.  “Why do you think that you’re a burden?”

“You’re an angel Cas.  You shouldn’t be stuck here with me,” you reasoned.  “You have better things to do.”

“I like being the one to take care of you [Y/N],” Castiel admitted.  “I never get alone time with you otherwise.  This gives me a chance to learn, so I can assist Sam or Dean when they fall ill.”

“I think I got it from the kid on the last case we had,” you recalled.  “Kids are like germ bombs waiting to go off.  I just happened to catch it this time.”  You shrugged, taking the plate of toast and the glass of water from Castiel.  “It’s just the flu.  It usually only lasts twenty-four hours.”

“I’ll stay with you until you feel better [Y/N],” Castiel promised.  The angel wrapped an arm around your shoulders.  As you rested your head on his shoulder he couldn’t help but smile.  He handed you the remote to your tv.  “I would like it if you showed me your favorite tv show.”

“That’ll be easy,” you laughed, selecting your favorite tv show.  You hit the play button, snuggling into Castiel’s side.  “Thanks for staying with me while I had the flu, Cas.  Having you around really helps.”

“As Dean would say, no biggie [Y/N],” Castiel whispered.  “When you feel one hundred percent better, I’ll have to take you to get some real food.  I think Dean forgot to go to the store.”

“I’d like that Cas,” you hummed.  “Hopefully I’m done throwing up.  It’s as unpleasant as it looks and sounds.”

Cas leaned his head against yours as he watched the tv.  He wondered if he would ever get alone time with you ever again.   It was times like this that made him realize how much he loved you.
