Do you want to hack together with the ARM mbed team? Got you covered! During the next month we’ll hold a hackathon in Oulu, FInland; a workshop at SXSW; and a talk at Bluetooth World.

Oulu Hackathon (29th February, 9:00 - 17:00)

Teekkaritalo (Kalervontie 7, 90570 Oulu, Finland)

Want to learn how to build connected devices that run for years on a battery? Join us at ARM’s IoT hackathon to build wireless connected devices and services using the mbed IoT Platform.

We’ll hack on connected devices using 6LoWPAN, a new wireless mesh technology that is optimized for low power. In the morning we’ll give a practical introduction to IoT using ARM mbed, help you set up the required software and hardware, connect the devices to the cloud and build a small web application that can communicate back to your device. In about two hours we’ll have created a complete end-to-end example.

After that, it’s time to hack! Connected lighting? A security system? You name it. We’ll bring a ton of sensors and breadboards, and have ARM personnel at your disposal when needed. At 16:30 you can show off your work during the demo round. At 17:00 we’ll end the hackathon, but feel free to stay while we open the bar, and talk all things IoT.

SXSW Create: Making Music on a Microcontroller (13th March, 15:30 - 18:00)

Room 1-2, Palmer Events Center (900 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX)

Once again we’ll be present at South by Southwest, this time with a follow-along workshop where we’ll explore the combination of music and microcontrollers by building an electronic drum kit. We’ll hook up a microcontroller with pads with tactile feedback and some piezo buzzers, and take a look at how we can create different sounds from code. After that, we’ll also look at how we can connect our kit to the internet and store drum sequences in the cloud. Then, time to start jamming!

Besides learning a lot about music and waveforms, this session will prepare you for building any device that connects to the Internet of Things.

Bluetooth World (15-16 March)

Levi’s Stadium (257 Castro St, Suite 215, Mountain View, CA)

If you’re around at Bluetooth World you have two chances to see us. During the exhibition we’ll show off the latest work that we and our partners have developed, and during the conference Jan Jongboom, Developer Evangelist IoT, will be present to talk about ARM mbed and Bluetooth Low Energy. He promises he won’t wear a suit.

The program has not been published yet, so keep an eye on the Bluetooth World website.
