Dark ghost shark (Hydrolagus novaezealandiae) and the pale ghost shark (Hydrolagus bemisi), both are shortnose chimaera of the family Chimaeridae, found on the continental shelf around the South Island of New Zealand in depths from 30 to 850 m.
Both ghost shark species are taken almost exclusively as a bycatch of other target trawl fisheries

Guillermo del Toro lands the Day 14 spot on 31 days of my favorite scary movies with his 2001 Gothic horror film The Devil’s Backbone. A lot of ghost story movies fall short because they want to use ghosts for their fright factor without ever putting much thought into the fact that ghosts are tragic figures caught between this world and the next often due to something left unfinished on Earth. Guillermo del Toro perfectly captures this tragedy in both the ghost and the setting (an orphanage during the Spanish Civil War). The real world horror of things like an unexploded bomb in the building’s courtyard meshes perfectly with the supernatural horror of restless undeath.

I’ve been doing my best to get what I have remaining posted before I go, but some things got in the way and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. At least I got most of it up. I thought I’d be making my exit toward the end of last summer, but I got a little temporary reprieve and have been able to enjoy another year here. And I really have enjoyed pretty much all of my time here on Tumblr. I started blogging because I had a job that was often mind-numbing and this place provided a nice little periodic distraction. Later as a whole bunch of different things fell apart in my life and I became increasingly physically unwell, it continued to be a nice place to escape to from time to time. I was excited to see I passed 20,000 followers with the past week. I’m only sorry that I won’t be able provide any more content to all of you in the future. Thanks for all the likes and reblogs and a big thank you to all of you I follow, some of which I’ve been following for nearly my entire time here. There’s many a time you’ve put a smile on my face, and for that I am truly grateful. I won’t be deleting this blog, so it should remain up until they decide it has been inactive too long, so feel free to enjoy until then. For me the time has come to journey into the west. I wish all of you the best of luck and love in the world. Goodbye
